To me this feels like a bit of a strange question, but when my friend asked me if its possible to make the quantize snap to the last bar or whatever its set to rather than the next one, I had no idea if it was possible.
When I record a loop and I want it to be one bar, I set quantize to one bar and I can press stop record any time before the bar has finished, so I could even double tap it if I wanted to.
But what I would like to know is if its possible for a clip recording to stop by quantizing to the previous measure rather than the next one, so say I am 1.5 bars into a clip recording and I click the clip to stop recording and it cuts off the last .5 and crops the recording to one bar.. is this possible without having to go and edit the clip after each recording?
backwards quantization
Re: backwards quantization
this sounds like you´re looking for an overdub function. Do you want to record midi or audio?
Re: backwards quantization
I'd like to know if its possible with both midi and audio..
But isn't overdub when you have already made a closed loop and you are overlaying more audio/midi to the original loop? I was just wondering if its possible to quantize the end of a loop after pressing stop to the previous time measure rather than the next one respective of playhead position in a clip.

Re: backwards quantization
you can trigger a new clip recording each bar..
this way when done recording...
you'd be able to jump to whichever 1 bar loop you like.....on the fly
for instance you can record 8bars and jump back to looping bar 3 ...
(can easily be done by just launching a scene and having 'select next scene on launch' and 'start recording on scene launch' turned ON.. then launching a scene each bar...or 2 bars.. or whatever)
can also be done automatically...
clyphx... or 'dummy clips'
generally :
have 'follow actions' trigger clips... that trigger recording slots at 1 bar intervals...
also using m4l is possible...
I actually made a device that can be locked to a track.. and has a 'select next clip on launch'..
which is handier than triggering a whole scene when recording...
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... rack-gizmo
but the default behaviour afaik.. (of ANY looping device.. )
is that pressing the button doesn't cut out any part of the audio...when recording stops / looping starts..
loopers either start overdubbing or stop the recording and start looping..

Re: backwards quantization
This thread may be 11 years old, but I finally managed to build a plugin which addresses this exact issue
It will snap the end of a recorded session clip to the nearest bar instead of the next one. This works for MIDI and audio clips.
It also respects your global quantization setting, so you could also snap to the nearest 1/2 bar etc..
Another thing it can do is enable the somewhat hidden "Implicit Arm" or "Auto Arm" feature, not to be confused with the Options.txt trick.
I'm working on a video demo, but this manual also covers all the details.
You can get it on gumroad!
Hope this helps someone, I for one was looking for something like this for years.
Live looping in Live feels much closer to using an RC-505 now <3
