My first project in realtime. Any advice?

Post by Hexagon » Thu Jul 19, 2012 6:01 pm

Hello guys.

I'm about to take my hp probook 4530s win7 32bit laptop on scene to run ableton for track playback and playing vsts in realtime. My interface is a fast track pro and my midi gear is a novation sl mkII. But since I've had audio and midi device loses in the studio, I'm really afraid of having a trouble on scene. Please guide me if you've done a similar thing before.

Thanks.

What are you worried about exactly?

When my usb interface or its cable moves, ableton loses the audio device. this has rarely happened but it has anyway. I really wanna make sure my interface is stable. Do you think if usb interfaces like mine can be stable on scene?

I don't know what you mean by "on the scene" exactly, but I'm assuming you mean taking it out while performing at a show. I have the same interface, and I've never had a problem. That said, I have had Live become unstable on me, which caused me to restart my laptop mid set. That sucked, so I now play with a mixer that has my laptop in one channel, and my iphone with tracks loaded up on another channel.

First thing I would check is your USB cable. If you switch your interface to a new cable, move the cable, and Live (your computer, actually) loses the device, then try a different USB port. If none of this works, it might be the USB port on your interface.

I have never had a problem playing a gig using a USB interface. Not because it was USB, anyway. :D

If you can't get it to be reliable in your studio, it won't be reliable on stage.

Good luck!

Chris
