it's been interesting watching that particular typo proliferate. I've even seen it on billboards and signs people pay for. on this forum there are lots of people that write English as a second language so it's understandable. anyway, I'm an awful writer.

after reading the article all I can say is the author is an idiot.

saying that CDs can be burned wrong is some of the weirdest bullshit around this argument I've read yet. if you can use the same CD burner to burn software and data and the software can be installed from disc or the data can be read then all the 1s and 0s were burned in the right spot. it's no different for audio. if 1s and 0s were dropped during burning it would be looooooong known that this affects audio because the result would be snats and pops in the audio, not a loss of warmness. digital doesn't screw up gracefully.

what he doesn't talk about are the actual ways digital can screw up, like a jittery word clock hitting the DAC.

I'm not saying he's a bad producer or shouldn't be interviewed, he just doesn't have a clue what's behind the knobs he turns.

heh. taiyo yuden cds. heard that same shit banded about a lot over the years.
theyre used because (apparently) their dye has a better shelf life and are less likely to be coastered.
nothing to do with audio fidelity.

They usually have less errors when checked prior to cd replication, and there's a couple other brand names that use the exact same discs. I forget which at the moment.

Also, I'm pretty sure that CDs that are burned typically have less errors overall compared to those physically pressed to create the pits and lanes.

I totally forgot something. in Bob Katz's book Mastering Audio he does talk about audio CDs being allowed to have so many errors to them to be qualified as a good or bad burn and error free CDs are pretty much non-existent.

gotta go back and read that chapter again. pretty dry stuff though.

There's error correction built into audio CDs too, so it takes quite a bit to actually them to not play.
