live drumming question

Post by diegux » Thu Jul 26, 2012 8:17 pm

Hi everyone.
I am thinking about buying live, but need to know if what I want to do would be possible.

I am a drummer, and play electronic drums. I play in a band, and we would need to have the computer managing the tempo at certain moments, and to play without the click at other moments. We need to switch between computer tempo and human tempo on the fly, so I guess I would have to tap tempo, activate a loop recording while playing, and then swicth to playback. I need to work with midi data mainly.

Is this possible?

Sorry for my english, and thanks for your help.

After like 2 years playing with live drummer and electronics in live I'd say either human or click track. There is a way to make live follow drummer ( look "b-keeper" / max for live patch on google ), but its too much hassle and unreliable, it follows simple 4/4 beats, rock rhythms, but if you're going to pretend you are Jack DeJohnette it fails to follow. My advice - use click all the time, or make sets starting with computer click than human. Going from free to click is a bit difficult, but manageable - you play tempo you want, than someone taps tempo, then starts sequence on a cue.
I'd say drop the computer and find good musicians, because they can do everything live does + much more.

Circular Logic are now providing free licences to their InTime software (which they are no longer developing). worth a try:
