Sampler vs Kontakt 3

Hi

Anyone got any useful opinions on this, basicly I've got normal ableton but not the instruments, which kinda seem not worth it when you're already addicted to Native Instruments stuff (i'm a big fan of massive and absynth and as far as I can tell the ableton suite instruments don't compare)

Still sampler did get my attention when I read it can load the Kontakt 3 factory content.

So I tried the demo, and well they don't sound right, like the release is not set properly or somthing who knows, i don't like wasting time too much on technical things.

Although I do occasionally like to geek out I mostly want stuff to just work so I can focus on composition, so would you just stick with normal Kontakt 3 in this instance?

i have sampler, wish i had more content for it. Wish i had kontact!
do you HAVE kontact? then use kontact for the kontact patches.

sampler is great for a lot of other stuff, screwing stuff up etc, brain stuff. It's probably good for generic sample playback stuff but i barely have any content like i said, so i dunno. Wish live suite had more of that in it.

a ton of the live suite stuff is racked simplers over sampler, although they use some of samplers features too that you don't have access too.

You will find many sample collections out their are in the Kontakt format. For this reason alone I would say go w/Kontakt.

yeah the default adsr settings in kontakt are tuned a little bit better i think..

man i wish live could read kontakt files tho

Kontakt is great for painstakingly building realistic instruments - and the library is amazing. The built-in FX are great too - and you can get completely lost in it.

But if you like quick creative sampling, mangling things up, quickly resampling synth lines etc - Sampler is far more intuitive.

I actually find Kontakt to be a pain in the arse nowadays - I used to spend most of my time with it, but I've been spoiled by the super-fast drag and drop Ableton workflow. I find dealing with the Kontakt UI when running it within Ableton to be a bit of a mindfuck... and most of the time, Sampler's features are sufficient for my needs.

as for the knotakt libraries, sampler can load them. just drop the library file in sampler, easy as pie. can load plenty of other formats. the one thing i would like in sampler would be OUTS. kontakt has OUTS so you can send the sound to multiple tracks, and do seperate, effects/modulation on each. the workaround i have made for this is to create an instrument rack with seperate instances of sampler and different effects on each then use a chain selector to choose.

I had Native Instruments Bandstand what a piece of Junk - But I saved the instruments to use in Ableton Sampler and wow the sound is amazing. Ableton sampler makes all the sounds sound GOOOOD from strings to sax everything is usable in some way.

Here is the thing Native Instruments samples sound amazing by themselves but its a pain in the ass to get the sounds to sit well in the mix with Ableton Sampler the sounds sound incredible in the mix with very little tweaking.

Always remember build your sound set first Drums & Bass then Synths & Strings, Guit & Vox Make sure your frequencies don't overlap then get cracking on creating your tune.

Remember too many cooks spoil the broth and likewise Too many instruments spoil your song.

Strings weather a quartet or cello section or violin section should be seen as one audio spectrum playing in harmony not 3 different instruments competing to be heard at the same time.

Picture having 4 lead singers or guitarists or bassists it will never work it will be a sonic mess

So many classic songs were done on sound modules far inferior to what comes with Ableton or any DAW today yet the tunes were fat and Banging 1) Sound selection 2) Mix and 3) light master.

I was wondering before, which in peoples opinions gives best transposition for key-tracked samples? ie Loading a sample at C3, and it having the least transposition artifacts though C1 < - > C5.

I'm having a problem now importing K3 presets into sampler 3.5..it sets all the root notes wrongly to G8 and therefore cant play back the sounds properly.
This does not happen with the older Kontakt2 content which imports just fine. Is that a Sampler bug? using Live 8.08

most all kontakt instruments come with sample folders that you can load into the sampler rack. to get the instruments to sound correctly all you have to do is extend the release on them through the sampler

I use Sampler and Kontakt. Sampler is great for quick integration in Live, and an awesome sound design tool. Kontakt is better when you want to use the same patches in different DAWs, and of course for large patches of multi-sampled instruments. Sampler's ability to import Kontakt patches is cool, but for the most part, it is just easier to use Kontakt if you have it.

From a sound designers view, Lives Sampler is far more useful then Kontakt.
You can do sounds with Sampler, you can't do with Kontakt.
I really tried it and it has not the routing capabilities I needed.

Kontakt is more a player, bloated with features I really do not need.

Actually no other VST-Sampler comes close to Lives Sampler,
and I think it's the best of all Live instruments.
I was looking for a replacement and there is none...

If you know one that has the same routing as Sampler, let me know...
