Wav samples bitrate and sound quality

Post by cml » Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:32 am

Hello:

I started reviewing some of the samples in my lib... a couple weeks ago .. :D
Im giving my musical failure/frustration a more technical aproach..

I found that many of them are 16 bit , 706 Kbps, 44100 Hz..
I am concerned about the 706 Kbps bitrate.. Is it to LOW ?
ive peeked : most of professional sample pack sounds come in 2117 kbps..

are they mono? that might explain why they are so low. if they are professionally produced and normalised, etc, 16bit should be perfectly usable.*

2117kbps is most likely stereo 24bit (not got any audio to hand to check this, tho)

If they sound right they're usable. MPCs used to handle samples 12 bit.

so, 44100Hz sampling rate at 16-bit mono is 705.6kbps.

simple maths, guys, 44.1*16=705.6

so, 706 is 16-bit mono, 1408kbps is 44.1kHz, 16-bit... 32-bit 192kHz stereo = 32*192*2 = 12288kbps

Yep.

Edited for typo

Low bitrates are the reason why you are failing/are frustrated with music? I doubt it.

Technical approaches to creativity can work but here you are over thinking things.

A good sound at a low sample rate is better than a mediocre sound at a high sample rate. The source rules all.
