I have a serious question and I've been looking around everywhere for an answer. My question is is there anyway to control lives mixer, via faders, abletons native effects via knobs and encoders AND third party vst's WITHOUT having to switch between automap and live mode? I cant seem to do both. say for example, I want to change track volume and change filter cutoff, I then wont be able to use any encoders with the vst's. Even in automap mode, I cant set any of the controls to DAW settings or abletons native instruments or effects. I just dont see the point if I HAVE to change modes to do basic controls.
Another question that would help if answered is: is there away to use automap but not have everything automatically mapped? I'd rather use my encoders for parameters that I need to use instead of every single one mapping.
Thanks in advance

afaik, if you midi map an encoder, it's no longer available for automap. you can also create custom templates (modify the ableton template) to channelize the output so fewer encoders are assigned to automap. i never did anything like that though, and haven't had the sl25 in a long time.

Re: Questions about Sl MkII 25
there are 8 knobs and 8 buttons that are not programmed out of the box. These are available without reprogramming automaped controls.

I found this so annoying. I have a 49SL Compact and you seem to spend all your time hitting buttons.knucklez09 wrote:say for example, I want to change track volume and change filter cutoff, I then wont be able to use any encoders with the vst's.
One way is to make a new page. Assign the volume of the channel plus any effect controls to the encoders and then use page up and down to move between controls. Then you just have to try and remember where everything is.
I just went and bought a Vestax Vcm-600, a fader and 8 rotaries for each track that can be assigned to anything so apart from seeing where I am in the clips list I don't use the screen when playing as I can do everything from the mixer.

I don't understand the problem. If you want to control both the mixer and a VST then use the Ableton template. Teh faders control the mixer and the 8 encoders control the selected device, be it native device or VST. Use the configure button to arrange your VST controls in the order you want.
If you want to control a VST with all controls on the SL, use automap universal for plug-in control. This would obviously be for more detailed tweaking. For controlling mixer and important device/plug-in parameters, use ableton template.
If you want to be able to control a lot of mixer settings at the same time as a lot of plug-in parameters, then you need another controller. How else would you control so many parameters on just 16 knobs and 8 sliders at the same time. Get an APC40 and use the two together. That's what I do.
