I am not a whore, I will not suck the corporate teet!

Post by ChiDJ » Tue Jul 12, 2005 3:54 pm

Greetings from Chicago. Some of you may remember our fair city as the "birth-place" of house music.

We have a new tag-line now: Chicago; home of the "Gap-Club".

In case some of you aren't aware. Our home grown DJ's can't get a job anymore. Our residencies have been "sold" to Paul Okenfeld, Tiesto, Sasha, VanDyke, etc. The club owner's have decided that it's more profitable to pay one of these corporate icons $10-20K to play "vanilla-beats" with clever marketing themes like "porno-ball", "Dirty-Saturdays". Welcome to "urban-suburbia" where originality is a bad word and the artist is obsolete.

But, guess what....I'm not surprised...nor am I afraid. I've seen this before and I've been waiting for the right time - to restart the cycle. Yep! it's time to say,"Fuck the corporate candy coated cash cow clubs!"

We're goin' UNDERGROUND! Dark Dirty Basements, after-hours, and word of mouth - That's where your gonna find us; the true artists, the originators and makers of the "New Movement". What will this new movement will be called?...It's too soon to tell..All deviants are welcome....We will grow, we will create something new -

The kids will come running and clubs will start calling, "hey, we're sorry. you took all our patrons. we want you back. We'll pay you again. can we just copy what you made?...come on you can trust us.."

And the cycle starts again.
"Let you're body feel the sound! Let it cover you up and down!"

I think that has happened everywheere... too bad really.

Power to the local people.

(But I admit that I DO like a good inported English breaks/gahrige/2-step/gryme DJ set now and again...) Stantons, Krafty, Tipper, etc...

damn if you do, damned if you don't...
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

I'm with ya brother! It's like that in our town too (Salt Lake City). The locals don't get near the respect they deserve, and get next to none when a "star" is in town. Not that I don't have respect for said "stars", but I think the locals deserve more support than they get!

It's back to the underground!

i thought house music came from uk ,anyway .

you know , these guys are almost 40 yo ,they probably did a lot of gigs in squat parties until they started using their brains to get rich .now they have an office filled with 10 peoples just to find them gigs an promote their name .
of course they will take every slot availlable ,they get a compilation out every 3 month .their name are everywhere .
i don't know a lot of djs who didn't work their ass off to become a well known dj .
may be in 10 years you will have played enough underground gigs for someone to offer you a good contract because he saw you play a few times during a 10 years period .may be he would have seen some of your dj mixes under your own label at virgin megastore & bought a few of them .

i worked in a big club i n london for 3 years ,i might have passed 1000 mix or live demos to promoters ,agents ,djs ...to end up doing it by myself ,going to the bank and take the big risk of you make it or you loose everything ,i had to splash a lot of money before getting a decent salary & stop working ,i had to make my wife & kid live in a squat to save some money .

dude ,the only way you will make it big like them is to never give up ...

yes

its all about the grime/dubstep/breaks for me!

dont watch the big corporate shit, just get on and do what u believe in. Thats what we're doing, and we've got a healthy little scene emerging! Also helped a lot by pirate radio stations such as Rinse FM.

I'm from Chicago too, two words:

Lava Lounge

Pure isn't the only promoter in the city, and Soundbar and Vision aren't the only clubs :)

Hey Tarekith,

I actually spoke with Tolgar Apalgut today, (he's a patient of mine) and he told me about his set Friday at LavaLounge and "Bass by the Pound" maybe we can discuss this? I know it's mostly DNB, but I think I can bring something to the table.

Salt Lake City?

Do the mormons even allow parties and dancing?
I thought that they just exile all the male youth to other states so the old men have more young women to marry?
