Of course. The rock star designer. How did we not see that coming?

I wish they could do some experiments to measure degrees of solidity underground because it would be awesome if they found some mandmade structures buried from millenia of weather. It's not like they couldn't be there, but it'd to be under miles of rock.
Just an idea...

Yeah, but broham... Seriously. There's piece of shit $10 disposable cameras you can buy at the drug store that take better photos.

What's this LOW REZ B/W shit? This is N A S A, ffs.

Well brah, It's probably cuz they didn't need anymore than what the job required. Which was to check the wheels attitude. No reason to muck up the precious bandwidth or add complications for any reason. Also it's designed to survive extreme G's, extreme temps, yada yada. iPhone cam would be destroyed quickly. Like I said, what you've seen isn't for consumption. The good stuff might come tmrow or day after. Lots of shit needs to be physically unfolded and beeped out. They need to make sure their machine is tight before they start showing off. 3d hi rez video and serious pics to follow. It'll be stunning i betcha. This is insane tech at every limit.

@shadx312 - Nothing! would be more amazing than finding a buried civilization. Hell yeah, that would change a lot of things. The world would freak.

Radiation is being accounted for, something $10 disposable cameras don't have to deal with. This applies to the 200mhz computer as well... the latest greatest is fragile....
Anyway read about it before coming to rash conclusions, would do you some good. :)

Radiation is one thing, temperature is arguably harder to deal with. Curiosity's landing site is looking at day /night temperature swings around 0 to -100C. LSZ's beloved iPhone could just about manage -5C.

Of course that's after surviving the trip.

Besides they didn't put all that effort in just to take pretty pictures.

meh. I'm being led to believe that they've invented a kick ass rover that actually rides the surface of Mars but they can't seem to get a decent HD shot going?

Would you be happier if it was equipped with an app to send back pictures with sepia or psychedelic filters applied as well?

That would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Then set those pics to a lovely dubstep soundtrack and we'd have fucking GOLD.
