WTF! Ableton randomly stopped recognising my plug ins

Post by Naram » Sun Aug 19, 2012 6:46 pm

Hey folks

It's been years since I had problems with Ableton, but this one is pretty weird...

I installed several old Native Instruments this morning - or tried to at least... I managed to get FM8 up and running but couldn't get it to recognise several others including B4II and Reaktor for some reason... I figured maybe there was some issue with them being old and not being compatible with my OSX (Snow Lion). No biggie really, I don't really use NI synths much anyway.

BUT, disastrously, since installing FM8 my Ableton has stopped recognising my favourite, most crucial plug ins: the free TAL series (Nhttp://kunz.corrupt.ch/Products). I have no idea why this has happened. I literally just finished a tune with these synths this morning. But now they're not showing up! The VST and Audio Unit files are still in my Plug Ins folder, so I'm really mystified.

Any help much appreciated - because I really rely on these and am doing a lot of work at the moment with my music...

they are not in a subfolder called "tools" by chance? I had a similar issue with new plugin's not showing up after an update went out for 8.3...once I pulled them out of the "tools" subfolder, they were recognized. If that's not the case, try moving one of the "not seen" vst's to your root or another subfolder.

Try this. Go to Ableton.com and d/l the latest version of Live 8, just the program, not all of your live packs or extra instruments if you have them. Now, when it asks you where to save it, add 'a' to the filename, like Ableton Live 8a. Open it up and it should pull in all of your plugins.

Now, when you open Ableton Live 8, you will look for Live 8a. If this works, you can delete the old, and rename the new.

Hope this works for you!

follow up... your project folders should not be deleted when you delete the program unless you did something slick with them. The defaults keep them safe.
