Sigur Ros Kick drum

Post by tarai » Thu Aug 23, 2012 5:45 pm

I love the organic kick drums in Sigur Ros' music.
Does anyone know where I can get samples similar to this sound???
It has a slight muffledness to it, which I love. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

I heard somewhere that they pitched them down slightly.
Maybe it was that they were recorded to tape played slightly faster then slowed down into the correct tempo.
You need some acoustic drum samples really, then try pitching them down slightly.
Might be wrong though.

It's quite likely there's a layering of sounds going on. Think like a basic kick drum then a boot stomping on wood floor and so on. Try layering some samples of your own and backing it up with something like a 909 with the top rolled off for sub. I built a track with drum sounds made from just hitting things I had around. Gets a bit of that stomping vibe the Jonsi track has.

Of course the obvious option is if you can find a good isolated example, just sample from their music!
