Warping/changing tempo/slicing?

OK, so I realize that once you slice a sample to midi, if you change the set's BPM, the slices won't follow the tempo changes, but something that threw me off the other day was trying to grab a 4 bar loop & warp it properly (no problem), then slow it down by dropping the sets BPM ( I think from like 90 to 70 or so), THEN slicing to midi. I expected it to be sliced at 70 BPM, but it wasn't, it was sliced at the higher BPM. Is that normal? Bug? Do you have to crop the sample at the lower BPM before slicing if you want it to be correct?

it's not normal - it should slice at whatever tempo you have set but how could you tell it was at 90 and not 70?

I find that it sometimes gets the note lengths wrong and they overlap a bit so you might need to go into the midi editor and select all and adjust accordingly

Well, it was tough to tell at first, thought my ears were playing tricks on me, so I tried a more extreme version to confirm, like 90BPM down to 20BPM, then sliced - sounded exactly the same at both tempos.

Note lengths are ok....the loop was short, and the warp had everything lined up perfectly, and I sliced to 1/4 notes (to fill up the 16 pads of my MPD). No overlap or anything, but when I trigger the slices, the play at the faster BPM.

To my knowledge 'slice to MIDI' doesn't use warp markers to determine tempo, only to determine in how many parts the new file should be sliced up. Thus I think it is normal that after you (auto) sliced it the tempo of the various parts has shifted back to default.

After all; its a specific feature that you can change speed and speed sections on a warped clip. But a clip in Simpler doesn't provide those features.

Right, but I find this to be an odd situation- I recognize that warping doesn't work *in* Simpler/Sampler, but if I have an audio loop playing at XXX BPM in session view, then speed up/slow down until I get a loop I like & want to slice *at that tempo*, I don't get why the slicing doesn't happen at the current tempo. I'm going to try cropping the sample at the new tempo tonight, and seeing if it slices properly. I expect it should, as when it crops it writes a whole new sample to the hard drive, correct?

if that fails you can just rec it to another track at the new tempo, then slice that, no mucking about, testing, etc....

LOL...ya'll are getting way to complicated. After you alter your tempo and warp and get it sounding perfect for you...you right click and choose consolidate. Then, you slice to midi.

Same concept as cropping the sample, just writing the actual audio output to a new sample. And doesn't 'Consolidate' only work in arrangement?

experiment complete - if you want the slices at the new tempo you need to warp it and export the audio and then slice that.

It works in arrangement view but your slices will still be in your drum rack.

Freeze and then flatten the track with clip in before you slice to midi.

I just tried with the freezing method and it didn't work - what's the flattening step of the process?

Maybe I need to do that.

But it surely works with exporting the audio and then dropping the file back in using windows exploder or something.

the results are exactly the same after freeze/flattening as exporting and dragging back in
