djing with ableton

Post by natural pulse » Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:13 am

hey guys,

ive always used ableton for production but ive never looked at it for djing, anyways i want to start djing in ableton rather than traktor.

so for the past few days ive been trying to come up with a template i can use for djing but im having trouble figuring out how to use ableton to dj, i know to warp my tracks which i have but with not being able to scrub trough them or loop on the fly i feel a bit lost.

can any of you give me a few tips on how to make a good dj set in ableton ?

thanks in advance.

If you have a Midi you can map it to the a and b sides and then there's a crossfade.

If you do the lessons they give you IN ableton they tell you how you can do this.

In my experience though you want to auto warp it, but everytime I do it It comes out really choppy. Then again I just hooked up my Decks in the booth and put a input cable into the mic slot in my computer. (total ghetto rig) I have a Mixer that doesn't have a USB port in it, therefore I need a Midi

This is how to get started:

Great Warping tutorials:

If you want to perform your own tracks, I recommend assembling your audio into approximately 6 stems - drums, bassline, synths, vocals, etc. and then working from those parts to perform. This tutorial showed me how to get started on performing my music live! See this video:
