I'm just slightly worried about old Ableton. I love Live. I couldn't even imagine my life w/o it. I spend 70% of my time using it. But.......NI and quite a few other companies are really stepping their game up and really innovating! I don't wanna see Live get left behind!

This is exactly how I feel.

I left Live for a bit last year and went all hardware. But slowly all those little things that annoyed me about Live and computer-based production generally paled into insignificance compared to my frustration with a hardware set-up.

When I said I was leaving Live and detailed my reasons on this forum, someone said it sounded like I just needed a new laptop - a newer and better one. They were 100% spot on. Since getting a new laptop and getting back into Live, I can't believe I ever left it!

But... When I see stuff like the new Maschine and what Bitwig promises etc I can't help feeling Ableton are losing ground. When Live 9 does appear I hope it takes things to the next level again... But I can't help feeling it will be a massive anti-climax.

I take it that they're quite healthy. if they were in trouble they'd spit out a release to make some quick cash, sell all the office furniture and then close shop. years without a major new product release shows longevity.

not that I'm happy about the release cycle, I too love new toys.

YA, I'm sure your right. I'm hoping they're hard at work like mad scientists cooking up some good stuff, and some sorely neeeded standard features which I won't even mention because it's been done to DEATH on this forum. We all know.
I produce w/ Live and performed live w/ it up until a few months ago. I started using Traktor live and it's SOooo much more fun (in a DJ type performance.) I have my APC40 all mapped out to Traktor and in my opinion it's better than the s4 and all those other "DJ" controllers. Then NI goes and releases the remix decks and the F1. It looks and feels like Ableton clip view combined w/ Traktor. It is in it's infancy but I see where it's going. It really is quite revolutionary IMHO. I think if NI released a straight up DAW it would KILL everything!! Not sure if they're at all intrrested in doing so but it's interesting to ponder. I could see Maschine transforming into a full fledged DAW. I'm pretty psyched about the new Maschine too!! Then there's fucking Bitwig.

That said, Ableton really pioneered this whole clip based workflow and really changed the game. I just really hope they drop the bomb on this next release rather than dropping the ball.

They should put Max For Live built into Ableton instead of having to pay for it. Or they could lower the price of Ableton itself. I know Ableton 9 is coming soon because I just saw a price drop for it in a Guitar Center ad. And we all know that Ableton is not just gonna lower its price just because they are nice guys!!

Well Personally I'm not super pumped for Live 9, I'll want it and I'm going to upgrade DP7 to 8 when it comes out, Guru to Geist and just got Metasynth. If 9 comes out during this period then I'll have spent a ridiculous amount of money on software this year! My guess is the second I lay down the card online for the DP8 upgrade Ableton announce Live 9 is out.

May pi55 of those of us that have paid for it already! (unless we get a cheaper upgrade) but I do agree, I would like to see it intigrated more and of course 64 bit!

I also suspect a release this month (or at least information) after Sept 10th sale ends....

why would they do that ? and how ?
( Max/MSP by itself is 400$...+gen : 500$)
m4l is eventually supposed to be the coolest addon that you can think of..
so if you pay for sample packs addons..
it's only logical you would pay something like maxMSP and the loads of fx/instruments/modulators that come with it...
