actually they do, it's just not to the levels users would like. the fines are huge though.
Good to know that they are finally enacting LAWS to cover this, rather than the broadcasters ineffectually urging content producers to regulate themselves.

Too late for me, as I killed (unplugged) my TV 18 months ago and am never going to bother with it again.
99.999% trash anyways.
I do watch some content online, so I hope the new laws will apply to online stuff as well.
Sorry to go OT.

Testing some songs, and...

Skrillex - Some random Skrillex song (DR 4)
Dash Berlin - Better Half Of Me (DR 5)
Tiësto - Kaleidoscope (DR 7.5)
Justice - Waters of Nazareth (Apparently, DR is 8 on this mofo)
Gouryella - Walhalla (classic trance choon from '99, DR 8.5)

Interesting.

Every time I'm watching a Blockbuster, I have to reach for the remote control when they talk, cause I can't hear a damn thing.
And off course, when there is gun shots or explosion, the whole apartment is shaking.

So for me, 14db of DR is too much for movies.
I Totally agree with you.. so much that im using bold
watching a movie and turning the volume all the way up just to hear them whispering is ANNOYING especially when ten seconds after quite time is over some ass runs in and blast the place up with a tank!
14db is way way way to low!!!! i say everything should be at 6db any thing less is too quite anything more starts to sound compressed.

I remember about people making fun of death magnetic Metalica album for having something like 4db Dynamic range. Well it's the rule now isn't it ?
That album is largely responsible for the mainstream backlash to the Loudness Wars. Ted Jensen who mastered it has spoken out about how much he dislikes the results.

"I’m certainly sympathetic to your reaction, I get to slam my head against that brick wall every day. In this case the mixes were already brick walled before they arrived at my place. Suffice it to say I would never be pushed to overdrive things as far as they are here. Believe me I’m not proud to be associated with this one, and we can only hope that some good will come from this in some form of backlash against volume above all else." Ted Jensed as quoted at http://mastering-media.blogspot.com/200 ... pping.html

Dynamic Range is only a part of Loudness btw... There is a lot more to it than just reducing the DR if you want to also sound good.

Are you testing the DR natively using ableton plugs? If so, which?

Never found a way to do it with native plugins. Using TT Dynamic Meter, like TC.

trolling are you serious? i feel the movie industry is trolling by making me turn up the volume then rush to turn down the volume.
i can sort of understand that they want the experience in the theater (or home) to be authentic to whats happening in the picture but whats next? in the future will we have to get out of our seat's and place our ears on the screen close to the actors mouth just to hear whispering ?

I've searched the reaktor user library for a DR meter but how strange there isn't any.
M4L maybe?
