Fast forward (or reverse) by 1 bar?

Post by jj0b » Wed Nov 12, 2008 5:18 am

I have an M-Audio Oxygen 49 midi controller that has 6 transport buttons. All the transport buttons work perfectly in Live except for the Rewind and Fast Forward buttons. If I press either of these two it causes the play head to move around like crazy and I have to restart Live.

I would really like to have the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons move the play head by 1 bar but can't seem to figure out a way to do it.

Any ideas?

yeah midi learn the rev and fwd keys on the controller to the nudge buttons in the clip view box in the clip. than you can control how may bars you can nudge by what you have the quantization menu thingy button on.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I want this functionality in the arrange window so that when I am editing I can just use the Forward and Reverse button on my keyboard to navigate forward and back by 1 bar.

I'm sure I am missing something basic as this would seem the most obvious choice for these two buttons, and seems to be how they are supposed to work without using MIDI learn. Unfortunately the default functionality doesn't work. If I press either button the Live play head goes crazy and I have to restart the program.

The only way that I know how to push a loop forward/backward by one bar is to highlight the loop bracket and use the up and down arrow keys on my keyboard...

I'm not sure if there's a way to map a process to a keystroke on a midi keyboard (so, you hit your midi keyboard's fast forward button and it automatically highlights the loop bracket and "types" the up arrow)...

I just noticed, in arrangement view, there's a left arrow button, a set button, and a right arrow button... These are for locators.
You could go through and set a locator at each bar for a ridiculous amount of bars, and then save that into your template (so you never have to do that again) .... then you could map your "rewind" and "fast forward" button to the left and right buttons in the top right part of arrangement view.

Hopefully that helped.........

Thank you, I know that I can set the FWD/REV buttons to control NEXT/PREVIOUS LOCATOR, in fact I use them this way now (though I do not put a locator on every bar, just on the different parts of a track).

I read somewhere that some other control surface FWD/REV buttons do in fact move the play-head through the arrangement window (I think it was Tranzport) so I am confused why this doesn’t work with the popular M-Audio Oxygen controllers.

The fact that using the FWD/REV buttons makes the play-head move, albeit in a spastic and uncontrollable and ultimately destructive way tells me that someone was at least trying to make the FWD/REV buttons move the play-head. It seems to me that this must be a bug on the Ableton side of things. Has anyone else experienced this?

Bump

I use a mackie mcu pro, and it does this beautifully (when selected as a control surface)

But i want to set this up with my Traktor S4, for when im making dj mixes. I cant find anyway to get a hold of the playhead via midi map

Anyone know?
