Re: Ableton! Will Live 9 be released before year 2015?
Greedy and inefficient, yea well maybe be for the bedroom spanker but every pro
studio uses two monitors one to sequence and one for faders and plugins, a lot
use three but whatever floats your boat
See im grumbling because there should of been 64 bit support when 8 came out
not now when 9 is getting some what over due.
I want to be able to let go of logic and use ableton entirely but with out
some basic feature upgrades that just aint gong to happen which annoys me
i don't want to use 3 pieces of software when i could be using one
I like a lot about ableton which is why it pisses me off i want to be able
to cut segments of audio within live and not have to open sound forge to
perform this simple function
I want to be able to mix more effectively within live and improve my workflow with out having
to use logic for mix downs (something i have to do at present)
I know its a lot quicker to write in ableton but it would be a lot better if they
got there arse's into gear and sorted out just a few small areas within live that
would make it better for production work
I don't think asking for dual monitor support and basic wave editing are asking a lot
really, and surly it would be in abletons interest where folk did not see the need to
resort to other software to complete certain tasks???

Another thing i really don't like is my mates apple 30" screen
I have to zoom in on everything just to fuckin read it what is that about
is that what you call good work flow?
For much cheaper then one apple 30" cinema screen rip off
thingy i bought 2 22" hd monitors with money to spare on things
i actually need
they don't look as good but they certainly improve workflow
each to there own though and all that...

the size of the screen doesn't matter ..
it's the screen "real-estate" ...(resolution)
if a 42" that has a resolution of 1024x768 means you're going to be sitting at least 5 meters from it in order to identify and read fonts...
the size of the pixels would be huge...
today most TVs have 1080p full hd resolution..
still ...the bigger the screen .. the farther away you're going to use it..
higher resolutions means moving closer to the screen

Sure, Soundforge maybe better at doing this, but I always just perform this task in Live without much trouble.Knight Industry wrote:

Using studio one, I DEFINITELY had an HUGE workflow improvement by using three monitors instead of one, one for the mixer, one for the tracks and one for plugins and note editing.
Now back on a single monitor (good things won't last) I always find me move things over, under, to the left, to the right, win + left, win + right, alt-tabbing, etc...

that's what i do too... i have SoundForge... but 9 times out of 10 the zoom feature in Live is good enough.Sibanger wrote:Sure, Soundforge maybe better at doing this, but I always just perform this task in Live without much trouble.Knight Industry wrote:

recording studios typically have a vocal booth. if Live 9 doesn't come with a vocal booth... that's it, i'm switching DAWs.

"crop sample"H20nly wrote:that's what i do too... i have SoundForge... but 9 times out of 10 the zoom feature in Live is good enough.Sibanger wrote:Sure, Soundforge maybe better at doing this, but I always just perform this task in Live without much trouble.Knight Industry wrote:

Re: Ableton! Will Live 9 be released before year 2015?
Ive never visited a real big ass pro using 2 monitors in front. Not talking pros like 1000 album copies released, more like 100.000. Pop or jazz chart music. These guys use a mac laptop in huge ass studios, or a mac with one screen. The few ones I know of.. Lots of mid range DJ music producers releasing 500-1000 album copies use 2 screens.
I choose one screen because of the distance between my monitors. I found 24" with full hd resolution to be a nice balance between distance from screen, distance between monitors, and price. I do have an lcd T.V. and a 20" monitor conected on the wall in case a client or partner needs a mirror view from the couch or at the dj deks etc.
And uh.. +1 to whatever this thread is about.

downloaded a demo of studio one 2 bought it after an hour ofWilliam wrote:That's what I was about to ask...?3dot... wrote:what happened to Studio1 ???
tinkering with it
This is great and the answer to my problems never liked logic or cubase really
been using logic but sequencing in ableton, now i don't need to bother with
either as studio one will handle my production needs quite nicely had a look at
digital performer, studio one is better for lots of reasons i find a lot of
daws offering bloated feature sets that get in the way of workflow DP is one of
those type daws like logic and cubase they have cut out all the crap with Studio One
live is close to perfect for my live setup just needed something
that will fill in where live is lacking in production workflow
which i have found in studio one
The only thing i will miss is the ability have loops of different bar lengths playing
at the same time something i always loved about ableton but then that's not a biggie
Fuck bigwig and ableton, for production i have found my tool...

external VSTs can be dropped anywhere you want... this means that theoretically, if you use a channel strip plugin (like free-g, satson or slate VCC) then you could insert one into every channel and drop all those on a second monitor... voila, second monitor for mixing. might need to play with the auto-close settings in the prefs so they all stay open. and it isn't integrated into control surfaces; would have to prototype that too. anyways, while it's difficult, it is possible, in some sense. not completely though (dunno what happens if you expand a multi-chain drum rack, for instance).
really need a console plugin with a 'scribble strip'; none of them have a place to label what channel that vst is for.

I think you mis-interpret what i am am getting at here.
In ableton with clips you can have one clip playing 1 bar another clip at say 4 bars
and they will loop together depending on where you place the phrasing of each bar
This has nothing to do with style or genre you do not need to be able to perform
this function in order to produce dance music.
a linear daw will handle a dance track quite competently with out this feature
it's just something i like about ableton that i will miss until
either ableton sorts out some problems with live that at present
are not ideal for production work
(workflow issues some linear daws don't have)
Or bit wig turns out to be as good as the preview looks
either way for now i am happy using studio one for production
and live for live performance
and what is of course most important here is that i am happy
not you or any one else but me me me...

why do some people always have to f@ck or say whatever nasty thing to a program that they don't like because they have their lovely DAW?Knight Industry wrote:(...)

I mean I don't bitch on Reason or Reaper, Renoise, ModPlug Tracker and what else because I use Ableton live everyday.
Yes I love it, it really is what I need.
But other DAWS exist and are good.
Oh man
