Just speculating..
But, could it be that Ableton is waiting for the release of windows 8 before they finish their work on Live 9?
And if so (help me out here all of you software experts), how long does it usually take before big applications are adapted to OS changes? This might give us a hint on the minimum time before release of Live 9...

Have you tried windows 8?
Having done a few hours testing on it I'd be surprised if anything runs properly on it never mind daws.
File under Vista and wait for the next one to come along....
