Probably it is not so obvious on the phone, due to size but on iPad and MBP I get nice sharp picture and Skype is miserable in comparison. It is still bit limited, you can hardly adjust anything (unlike in Skype), was huge resources hog in Lion, got better in ML.

You can activate an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile. They're actually advertising that and selling the new nano SIM that is exclusive to the new iPhone.

But to buy an unlocked iPhone you are going to pay at least double what you pay for one attached to a carrier contract. But on the flip side your monthly bill will be a lot less and you won't be tied to a contract so I guess it's worth it to some people to shovel out that money upfront.

You know there is going to be a ton of complaints about all the apps that are letterboxed until the developers update them to fit on the bigger screen. :x

And a lot of developers are pissed Apple didn't mention this at the WWDC so they could have their apps ready on release day. Can't say I blame them, but Apple had to make a decision on supporting the developers or "doubling down on secrecy". :x

But with this iPhone it seems more like they doubled down on leaks. A lot of the "meh" reviews are based on the fact that we knew just about everything that was going to be on the new iPhone from leaks which mostly proved correct. The things we didn't know really don't matter or isn't anything most people get excited about...new processor, how much RAM. :x

And I read something about NFC tech that would make it a cool add-on. Other than paying for shit with your phone you could also put 2 phones in close proximity to each other and do something like flick contact information or a photo from one phone to the other. That would be damn cool. I'm kind of surprised Apple wouldn't be jumping all over that. :x

Interesting. But it would be cool to be able to do it natively without everybody needing a proprietary app.

I think it would be especially great for exchanging contact info that would already be in the proper format in the address book.

yeah, but you said that NFC was useless... they read your previous post and decided not to include it. i blame you :x

Why no NFC: Because there's no demand for it ...

...I'm pretty damn satisfied with those explanations. :x

NFC can be used for all kinds of cool shit in terms of transferring data/settings.

Well I guess it's up to me to debate myself in these threads because when I said why Apple wasn't including NFC and I understood their explanation, nobody countered with useful purposes beyond paying for shit.

Until I bravely stood up against myself! :x

Samsung Galaxy S III is a better phone. What the iPhone could've been.

I like the new Samsung commercial where a chick is receiving a phone call from her boyfriend or some dude she’s dating who she’s annoyed with and she can verbally tell her phone to not accept the call. Because that’s so much easier than moving your thumb over and hitting ignore on the screen.

It’s very empowering letting everybody within hearing distance know that you aren’t accepting a call. :x

The reason why Apple hasn't gotten into the NFC game yet is the same reason why they don't willy nilly adopt other new bits:

IT'S FUCKING UNRELIABLE.

For everytime it works, there's going to be 5 where it doesn't.

Also: see my post on wireless charging. Same deal. Apple likes to wait and watch the tech sort of foment before taking a risky plunge that cost a lot of $$ in dev.

Then, when they are good and ready, they buy the most promising tech from someone else then make it better. :P

The whole flicking of images and data...that's going to be fucking everywhere before long; including swiping something up and onto a TV/monitor/projector. That will be good times.

:x
I came for the

:x

But I also think it was at least partially not included because whatever piece of tech that is needed would undo Apple’s thickness and weight triumph. :x

When it was found out that the new iPad is heavier and thicker than the iPad 2 people lost their shit (including you). No doubt the retina display and the power it needs is the reason for the upsize but some people were “Don’t care! Fuck that!”. So now whenever possible Apple isn’t going to insert some piece of unproven tech in their products at the cost of size and weight. :x

They also kind of set themselves up for “meh” reviews with their clockwork-like yearly refreshes, but if they didn’t stick to that then the public would expect something insanely otherworldly as a reason for the delay.

Apple can’t win for winning. :x
