One day smooth playback, the next glitchy. Why?

Post by Winnaz » Mon Sep 17, 2012 11:29 am

Hi all, I'm on Live 8.3 and have been working on a track for a couple of weeks. The other day I was monitoring smoothly, no drop outs or glitches. The next morning I got up to do some more work on the track and kept getting drop outs and glitches. I'm doing some pretty cpu intensive work; have Massive, Sylenth, East West Orchestra and Omnisphere going as well as 4 returns running delay and reverbs, plus FX running on individual tracks. I realise I'm asking a lot considering the hardware I'm working with, but I don't understand why it would be fine one moment, then the next day decide to crap itself.

What could possibly be causing this?

virus? - check your taskmanager or whatever it is on mac.

sort by cpu and if you see anything weird google the name of the .exe

or try switching up the latency on your sound card and see if it goes away - if it does - although this is probably not the answer you want to hear then you need to cut your track count, freeze/flatten a few tracks etc. etc..

this happens to me frequently, so I just do a restart. Reason has never done this.
