Hello
I bought this master keyboard mainly because I like its action and controls, etc.
I don't like Automap
So I thought I buy it but I will not install Automap and I'll map everything with simple MIDI
Now, how to do it?
I heard there's a way to edit the Live Automap, for example to change the orders of Operator's controls
Anyone uses this keyboard without Automap installed?
Please share your knowledge
Thank you!

I just close Automap after it opens.
I'm not sure how to get somethings to work sometimes, the whole Automap thing seems super fucked up to me.
Currently I just use one configuration on template 40. I use the SL37 editor instead of Automap.

If you don't want use automap then just don't install it. You will still have all the regular midi templates and the ableton control surface template. But no you can not change the parameter order of the ableton devices like operator. You can change the order of plug-in parameters by hitting the configure button. So when you select it, those controls will automatically be controllable by the rotaries.

will I be able to specify parameter order of 16 maxforlive parameters and view them simulataneously?
can I then also lock this to a maxforlive device?
I dont like the thought of automap.
I have the sl zero mk1
Thanks

just rename the automap launch file... it will stop loading at startup
and yes... Lives' control surface support is separate to Novations' automap

Thank you!
This is my first time trying out novation remote sl zero mk1.
Im using automap 4.4 and get the m4l parameters displayed in left lcd ordered and named just fine.
The right lcd however seems to be hardwired to the Live mixer channels.
I want the 16 parameters of my max patch to get ordered 1-8 on left and 9-16 on right lcd.
This is all I want to use the remote zero for, nothing else, and Im making my patches with only 16 parameters to have
them all displayed simultaneously.
How can I get the remotezero to behave like this?
Thanks again !!

then maybe automap is the right thing for ya...
(although you might need to map it manually...)
read the manual to wrap your head around it...

I will, thanks.
Is it easy to just disable the mixer control on the right lcd?
Can you name and order parameters easily like in Reason 6.5?

It seems cool, yes.
In Reason im able to name and order parameters in an edit window and save it as "patches" which is nice.
How are you doing this in Live?
Im strugling to get the plugin parameters into the right lcd

You can't do this. Because Ableton's Instant mapping kinda sucks on the SL. Keep in mind this is not Novations automap what you're using. It's Ableton's instant mapping. It's good with the APC or things where you have 8 knobs. But on the SL you can't change the right side to control more banks of parameters, it's stuck on mixer. Only with Automap Universal (ie. plug-in automap) can you use the whole set of controls and order them any way you want. Ableton devices and Max for Live devices don't work with automap universal, it is for plug-ins only.
This is why I like the APC for Ableton's instant mapping and the Novation SL for plug-ins. Beauty combo. Works like a charm. People who think it's somehow bad are simply confused about it.

Actually you could try setting up a custom midi template for instant mapping. You can create the script I believe assigning what cc's are which parameters and possibly use the rest of the knobs. I haven't tried but in theory you should be able to. You won' thave the parameter names in the lcd screens, and there will be no communication from the software to the hardware but it might give you the control you want.

If you don't use Automap you are missing out. I have the Zero SL MkII and didnt use Automap at all because I didnt understand it. Yes the hardware has a template in advanced mode and allows you to control the mixer and device parameters easily but you are limited to how much of the template can be customised.
If you turn on 'Automap' button on the hardware and select 'User' you can create a preset within the Automap software and you can name and change the function of all the button/knobs.
You still have to use Ableton Live's midimap mode to assign the controller to your devices etc but you have so much more control over the hardware!
I almost sold my Zero Sl on ebay before I found this out!

@ 3dot - you're on Windows right? automap seemed to get in the way for me there, have you tried it on both iOS and Windows?
@ funken & glitchrock... i think you guys are both on Macs... have you tried on Windows setups?
the reason i ask is because i got an iMac yesterday (previously Win XP & 7) and when i was downloading the novation drivers there was automap (of course). i couldn't help but wonder how it would run and if was any less clunky. not only would i be trying it on a new OS but it was also about 3 or 4 years ago when i installed and used it (in Windows XP) so there are a lot of changes to consider. in the end last night i steered clear, but left the novation page up in a Safari session anyway...
i'm really just looking for some insight as to whether it is the same ole same ole or if there is a perceivable difference.
thnx.

I think they've continuously improved it over the years. I haven't tried it on Windows, but it's so effortless to use on the mac that you forget it's there. My automap serever is always running but I never see the window or anything. The only effort is in making you plug-in layouts, which takes some thought and time. But there is certainly nothing clunky about it now, although it was a bit in the early days. I see no difference in practice between using automapped version or regular versions besides the automap control functionality. They've made it so easy, I don't see how anyone could not get up and running quickly. Open the software, click the plu-ins in the checklist you want automapped. Open plug-in, hit a plug-in parameter and hit learn on the SL, then touch a hard control. Repeat for all controls (or hit learn latch to stay on). Save automap template.
