Best DAW ever

Post by Polyson » Wed Oct 03, 2012 11:59 am

I've seen a thread with the same title but I can't find it back.

To me a DAW is a whole box. Not a soft running on a mac or a PC.
But a appliance with Live only.

- Integrated (pro) soundcard with midi connectors and digital output
- could look like a laptop with a touch screen
- USB port strong enough to power supply APCs
- have "short cut" directly written on the keyboard
- have basics ableton controls on it (next to the pad) : faders (tactil), buttons (start, stop, record, and other fully assignable) not tactil (easier to use)

I've made a draft of it but I don't know how to upload a screenshot to this forum :(

Thanks for your answer, funken.

1) I'm used to Live's ease of use and I could think that I would need a third party website to put an image on this forum...

2) As you can see, it's just a quick and dirty draft. It's just to give sort of idea, but I prefer to spend my extra time on Live than on making drafts ;)

ok, I still got a problem with this image so here is the link :

- blue fader should be sensitive, with a light to show fader's level
- Other bluttons (yellow, red and green) could be real button (not sensitive).
- Solo buttons are missing on my scheme.

Nautrally it's just the first try and it can be enhanced.

This all in one hardware version of live is that way, plug and play. Very useful while travelling.

could be kind of cool to have some kind of velcro stick on type faders and buttons you could stick on the laptop like that

could probably make them fairly cheap. Lets do it and make a million bucks.

ok so ultimate dawstation would have to be from the future when iPads have huge ssd hd capacity, over 16 gb ram, quad core processor and built in low latency sound card with xlr inputs...that would be kick ass!

I don't know if I'd want faders and buttons right where I rest my hands to type. I feel like a lot of things would be less convenient with an all in one piece of hardware...

Every time I put a controller to my laptop I realize I'm as fast with a trackpad....

This is because you spend more time stroking your pad than twiddling your knobs. It's good to look at something else, rest the eyes, and use your hands in different ways. Give knobs a chance, I say! If you do it right it should all be set up immediately. What is your controller?
I've tried various ones and they all gather dust now. Trackpads and mouse, fast and works fine. Plus I don't need to worry about mappings and so on...
