Midi Sync problems

Post by Twine » Tue Apr 08, 2003 4:47 pm

Hello,

When trying to sync 2 versions of the live 2.0.3 the slave continually loses sync.

Here are the details:

The master clock is comming from a G3 500Mhz white iBook with 512 megs of ram. And using an Oxygen 8 midi contoller to send the signal.

The slave is a G4 Tibook 667 Mhz with 1 Gig of ram. And is using A midiman Midisport 2X2 to receive the midi signal.

Here is what happens. The clock is activated and the tempo display starts going crazy on the slave. The master is sending at 130 BPM and the slave continually bounces from 128 to 131 and then after a few minutes pops up a dialogue saying that it has lost midi sync!

How do I fix this?

thanks,
Chad

Midi Sync problems

hi chad
had same problem, and i checked a lot of different midi interfaces....
the only one i know who works kind of good as a slave is midisport 1x1, for the master u can use whatever u want...
we really tried hard to get a good solution because we are playing live insync, so master has mt4 interface and works also with external midicontroller, etc.
the slave just receive midiclock with midisport 1x1, nothing else

Midi sync problems

Post by pseudonyme » Wed Apr 09, 2003 2:39 pm

hi folks,

I also use a midiman=m-audio 2x2 USB interface with a tibook as slave running Live V1.52, connected to a hardware sequencer sending midi clock.

Live doesn't sync properly: it receives 90bpm INSTEAD of 120bpm (which is sent by the external hardware synth...)

I DON'T THINK the problem is concerned with the HARDWARE (the midi interface). Instead of that, I KNOW that Logic Audio triggers alright (used instead of ableton Live) - you can sync Logic by external input very accurate... so: Live syncs to 90bpm, Logic (correctly) to 120bpm...

Got an answer from ableton support: the problem should be fixed within 2.0x, but I'm not a V2 User yet, waiting for help 8O ...

Could you guys, chad and dusty, try syncing another sequencer by external clock, instead of Live, confirming what I examined? thanx a lot

good luck

I have a midi problem too!

Its glitchy, live will jump. I am using 1.5.2 and I will sync perfectly untill live just jumps and then it will be off. It seems quite random. I want live to sync perfecly when I slow down the tempo of my master or speed it up. Thats how they market it so why does it have such a problem, theres no way you can play live with any midi sync if it does this. Does 2.0 have the same problem?

Hi NRG111,

please read my posting in this thread: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3129.

Can you tell me what kind of tempo changes do you want to do? Slow ones inside a range of some BPMs or do you want to do really fast changes?

regards,
Alex
