Control midi CC data (volume) with an external controller?

Post by rkampschoer » Tue Oct 16, 2012 12:25 pm

Hi people,

I'm looking for a way to be able to control midi CC data within a clip (volume) with an external controller?
However, Ableton doesn't allow me to assign and external controllers within the CC data list.
Is there any workaround to be able to do this?

Many thanks in advance,
Robin

do control m and then click the track volume slider and then wiggle your controller

do control m again

you should get the same effect

Hi there,

I've already tried this, but unfortunately this is not possible with the volume in the CC data list.
Also, the list doesn't become purple when the midi mapping is selected.

Click the volume slider in the session view.

Why do you need to have the clip automation controlled in this way?

You get the same effect with the slider.

The volume isn't meant to adjust volume from audio in Ableton, but it's meant to adjust the midi CC data going to many visual channels in an Arkaos setup running on another laptop in an audiovisual setup.
Controlling volume in Ableton is indeed no problem at all, but we need to be able to control the CC data volume, as the visual channels in Arkaos listen to CC data :)

Sorry I misunderstood you - dunno - I only use incoming/outgoing symmetric controllers.

So if I map a controller knob to volume and automate it my controller will light up with the right values as the song plays.

I have to setup to the controller as a remote device in live preferences first of course otherwise this doesn't happen.

Ah yes, I use that as well, but for the visual part of the setup I need to map the exact data from the CC data list, and there's the difficult part ;)
Thanks anyway :)
