recording a dj mix

Post by funkbo » Wed Jul 13, 2005 6:44 pm

hi...i recorded an old fashioned house mix from my decks into live. should i turn off all the warping and quantize options? i got some warbling on some basslines and reckon that it has something to do with it. i'm just trying to get some travel cds ready for a trip....and am not ready to record and warp individual tracks for ableton mixing.

however  if there is a way for live to help "tighten up" any loose spots that would be cool. basically i wanna spin for 60-70 minutes...do a little processing if needed...eq, etc. and render.

You could play your clip simply unwarped,

or reset the clips warpinfo,
then tap your recordings tempo using the tap button,
warp your track using the tempo you got from the taping
and put the timestreching in repitch mode, or try around with the other 3 modes.

i dont know of a way to clean up loose spots in a prerecorded mix, other than simply editing them out altogether.

as far as the warbling, when you are recording be sure you are not clipping when coming out of your mixer and also be sure the signal is not clipping coming into ableton.

thanks all...i just recorded a nice mix...made sure record quantize was off..turned warping off on the clip...used the classic master limiter and normalize...and the levels are okay and it sounds okay!

i'm off to a wedding in costa rica tomorrow and all my old house crew from colorado will be there...looks like no decks so we are all bringing mixes for the party.

PEACE...funkbo
