Well i think all the new features are going to be helpful no matter how much people are griping about this or that, there is also still time to add more to the list.
The pricing is really the big issue that has people driven up the wall, I bought live 8 suite as an upgrade from 7 and paid €345 for the boxed version of it 2 days after is was released and then max for live for €249.00 and my upgrade price to live 9 suite is €199.00 thats $257 u.s. and other users are getting for $194.00 u.s. that don't own suite 8 or max..

It's like thanks for being a customer...

Seriously WTF ableton :?:

The Audio to Midi reminds me a bit of the way a synth pedal tracks.
It might provide interesting but unexpected results.
Those results may be great, or awful, at different times

Converting audio to MIDI. Ableton isn’t Celemony – you can’t convert audio to MIDI, then edit the MIDI, then change the pitch and rhythm of the original audio. (For that, you’ll still have to run Celemony as a plug-in, and I’m sure this will disappoint some users.) But what Live 9?s new “convert to MIDI” feature can do is “transcribe” melodic, polyphonic, and percussive content to an editable MIDI clip.

I realise that, I just think the new audio to MIDI feature is in the same ballpark, and if it works as described, I'm going to use this feature a LOT.

By the way: I can't help but think (hope?) that there are more new features than what has already been announced - not in the "Oh, by the way - there is one more thing" sense, but things like zooming without having to enter the settings? Have they really not addressed this?

I really hope there's more.

audio to midi has amazing potential for happy accidents and giving new voices to muses. what I've been holding out for is for Ableton to blow my mind with something new. great, the old stuff is a little better, some big feature requests have been fulfilled, those are more like Live 8 updates. where's the wow factor?

I haven't seen or read up on Push yet, looks promising.

Going through the feature list now. The one single most significant improvement that I would need from Live is "fixed" MIDI latency when monitoring and recording it. Has this issue been fixed? It still isn't possible to accurately (or at least reasonably accurately) record MIDI and audio with channel monitoring set to IN or AUTO.

You can speak for yourself, dude. All opinions are subjective, including yours. There used to be a huge thread on this forum where a lot of people requested and discussed specific new features they wish to be added in Live 9, and to my memory audio to midi at least wasn't amongst the most discussed ones. If you could read between the lines (obviously you cannot), then you might understand my point.

I guess they'll go into more detail about the changes later, but if they have re-written Live from the ground-up (which they at one point indicated would be necessary in order to incorporate Session automation), I'm beginning to think that they've laid the foundation for 9.X updates that are not mere bugfixes, but expansions.

Maybe there will even be more changes in the beta? I'd like to present an analogy: Blizzard, the company behind games like Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft and World of Warcraft, currently have the new Starcraft expansion, Heart of the Swarm, in beta. Since it was announced, they've been constantly changing things back and forth, removing and re-adding units - all based feedback from the beta testers.

What if Ableton have more features they want to implement, but that they want proper user feedback on first? It was obvious to EVERYONE that they had to make an announcement soon. Three years without a single word on the next version is a long time. Like I mentioned earlier, the feature list of Live 9 is underwhelming to new users - it caters mostly to existing users, and even to us, it's not 'wow' - it's more like 'about time' and 'hey, that's cool'.

So I'm thinking we might be looking at a more extensive list of features around release date, and possibly 9.X updates with more features?

Wishful thinking, i'd really like to think so also :)

I think what you see is what you get. Maybe some feature updates in the future but who knows wht.
Seems to me they are just primed for moving forward, and hopefully putting out a very stable release that includes M4L.

I don't know why people are being so negative about this? Ableton isn't a publicly traded company, there's nothing preventing them from adding some new features in an update. The current list includes two features that were constantly asked for, Session Automation and better MIDI editing. There are very possibly dozens of little things to improve workflow that aren't "big" enough to announce and the new plug ins look far more professional and usable for people.
Look, I have Fabfilter Pro C, L, and G, plus PSP Neon. I don't need a single thing from the new plug ins, but they look like great additions for people.
It Looks like most of the contents of the Orchestral instruments and Session Drums as well as Max 4 Live are included in Suite now, making it a well rounded package in the realm of Komplete. Push looks great, it's a bit spendy, but it looks well built and if you really use Live only, it makes total sense.

I'm not a fanboy by any means, but upgrading to Suite is a total no brainer as far as I'm concerned, and I'm going to take a long look at Push, hopefully you can also use it as a MIDI controller for other software, and honestly I doubt that Ableton would restrain it that way. 8)
