Live 8 Suite Box to Live 9 Suite worth it?
Live 8 Suite Box to Live 9 Suite worth it?
I was going to upgrade from Live 8 to Live 8 Suite box to get the extra sounds, but it looks like the free upgrade of Live 9 Suite comes with all the extra session drums and orchestra sounds regardless of whether you order the box or not. Is it worth it to get the box version or just get Live 8 Suite and wait until the beginning of the year for the extra sounds? Anyone have any info on this from Ableton?
Re: Live 8 Suite Box to Live 9 Suite worth it?
I think I will go for the download of suite 8.
Save us$57 and end up getting it all with live 9 download, as you pointed out

And looking here https://www.ableton.com/en/live-8/
It looks like we get the sound packs regardless of boxed/unboxed.

Re: Live 8 Suite Box to Live 9 Suite worth it?
Sent an email to Ableton support and had this confirmed. There's no longer any difference between the download and box versions in terms of sound content. I ended up going for the box anyway so I could get the samples earlier because Q1 could mean as late as the end of March...
Hi there,
Thank you for your e-mail.
We appreciate your interest in upgrading to Suite 8, please let me shed some light on your questions.
If you upgrade to Suite 8 download now, you will have the full content avaiable once Suite 9 will be released, since Suite 9 will not have a difference in content anymore between box and download version.
If you upgrade to Suite 8 box now, you will immediately have the full content available and don´t have to wait until the first quarter of 2013.
We hope this could clarify things a bit, for further questions on Live 9 / Suite 9 we recommend our Live 9 FAQ, please have a look:

Re: Live 8 Suite Box to Live 9 Suite worth it?
This is still confusing to me. So if you upgrade to Suite 8 Box now, you get all the content that will be included with Live Suite 9 now? But if you upgrade to Suite download now, you have to wait to get that content? Is the Suite 9 content all immediately downloadable, but only being released now to folks who upgrade to the boxed version? Seems odd to me.........nek4life wrote:Sent an email to Ableton support and had this confirmed. There's no longer any difference between the download and box versions in terms of sound content. Re: Live 8 Suite Box to Live 9 Suite worth it?
The way I read it is like this.
As of now there still is a difference between Live 8 Suite an Live 8 Suite Boxed. With the boxed version you right now you get session drums and the orchestra instruments on the DVDs that come with the box.
When Live 9 comes out there will be no difference in content between the regular version and boxed version in terms of sound content. So the session drums and orchestra instruments are now available as downloads as well with the download version of Live 9.
So I think what the email was trying to say is. If you want access to session drums and orchestra instruments now, get the boxed version of Live 8 Suite. If you can wait, just buy the download Live 8 Suite and when Live 9 Suite download comes out you will have access to the extra content without paying extra for the Live 8 boxed version.
Keep in mind Live 9 isn't scheduled for release until Q1 next year so that could be as far out as March of next year.
Hope that helps. I ended up getting the boxed version because I wanted the extra content now rather than waiting until Live 9 is released to get it.

Well Suite 8 download it is.
Thanks for that nek4life. It's actually been quite difficult finding an answer to this.
