PC performance settings - program vs bakcground services

Post by Vass » Sun Oct 28, 2012 5:08 pm

Hi,

When i got my soundcard i changed my PC processor scheduling to prioritise background services as this was advised to give better audio performance and avoid dropouts.

Now, after a few CPU problems in live while producing im wondering if changing it back to programs may be better to save CPU?

Im not sure i fully understand this so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated! Is Ableton a program and therefore would it be prioritised an given more memory if programs were selected as a priority?

I dont perform with live and i get the occasional drop out anyway! So if that keeps up but i get more CPU as a result that would benefit me. However im not sure if it even would give more CPU to Ableton if i take this action?

Anyone know??

Thanks!

try it... tell us what you find...
imo..
if they recommend this set to 'background'.. then that's that.
(Live is a program indeed... but audio might be considered a "background process" to windowz)

if you're having CPU problems... first thing I'd check is the CPU cooling...

Thanks 3dot,

Im not sure about CPU cooling? Never heard of that but i have a laptop so im assuming i can fiddle with that!

I will try the difference between the 2 as soon as i get a chance and let you know!
