Personally have to agree with this statement. Being a Apple user on a smaller computer base were more likely going to be misunderstood or offensive to some people out there who dont share the same experience. Since switching from a PC to Apple, my life has been a little less frustrating an alot more productive and fun. I have developed somewhat a evangelical approach in trying to pursuede others to my side. My ownly flaw is I might seem more arrogant to where Im now identify with curse words such as the ones mentioned. As an Apple user, were always going to have a share of believers and non-believers who have yet to see the light with the Apple user base.adhmzaiusz wrote:well you know...there are 3 kinds of people in the world...dicks, cunts and assholesD K wrote:if they're cunts, i guess that makes you...
a dick.
you know the rest-- i refuse to think that im getting f*cked by a dick being a mac user and all. so i'd rather say he's just an asshole cause im shure he'd get f*cked by dicks also
so, please call us mac users dicks pleaze.
This has NOTHING to do with the origin of the word. Your using this word daily as if its perfectly normalmosca wrote: anyone who is intouch with their female side is in fact a cunt, odin was a cunt apparently (cant remember the ins and outs of it all)
it's not really an insult.
PS : my hypno boobs get censored and yet no one has piped up about the word cunt! what is this place coming to?
Thought I would just repost your quote.
hey DJRetard
did you read even read the Julian Cope quote? obviously not by the sounds of it. Have you read any of the posts explaining the origin of the word? nope? can you actually read or did you show it to your girlfriend so she could read it out to you.
get a grip mate, most of the people i know use the word, i use the word, female friends of mine use the word (and they've got like degrees and good jobs and stuff so they are obviously not trashy like)
I didn't invent the word cunt
you really piss me off with your attitude, so in future - don't reply to my posts eh? and if i'm on fire - let me burn save your po faced piss for someone else.
mo
PS - i left a comma out of one of those sentences, see if you can guess which one.
Sorry if I piss you off Mosca. If an adult debate is to much for you then dont respond. Clearly your very angry because I said the word is offensive to females. Im not wrong about this, and you have made it sound like everyone in Scotland uses the word at every oppurtunity. Ive been to Scotland many times and the word is not freely used as you claim. Sure some like you are going to use it, and its seems your friends do as well. BUT dont tarnish the good reputation of the good scots people. Its like teh greed thing the scots have a reputation of. I have never met such generous people so its a total myth.
Heres is the proper definition of the C word. Read it and learn. Scotsmen and women are very intelligent people and I like scotsmen very much btw.
Cunt" is also used as a term of abuse: in American English, it is mainly directed at women, and tends to imply that the named person is extremely nasty and unpleasant in a way that bitch does not imply. It is generally considered the most offensive description one can attribute to a female. It is also sometimes directed at men as a slur, as it implies a deficit of masculinity. In Commonwealth English it is mainly directed at men, and is considered an insulting swear-word, implying that the named person is extremely obnoxious and malicious. The word is generally considered to be more offensive than cock, prick, and other vulgar words referring to the penis.
Like many vulgar words, cunt owes some of its "popularity" in that usage to its phonetic characteristics. Its monosyllabic nature, combined with the hard K sound at the beginning and the sharp T at the end make it well-suited for use as an epithet or interjection.
The word is generally more offensive in the United States than it is in Commonwealth countries, where cunt can even be used as a jovial term of endearment (e.g. “he's a good cunt”). This usage is limited, however, and is not considered polite.
With the growing acceptance of the word fuck in print and broadcast media, cunt is sometimes described as the last genuinely unprintable and unsayable sexual word in mainstream American media; this is less true in the UK, where in recent years it has received rare use in newspapers and even on radio and television, while remaining virtually taboo. In January 2005, the BBC faced controversy after it broadcast Jerry Springer - The Opera on British television. The performance included the phrase "cunting, cunting, cunting, cunting cunt" (a description of the Devil). This usage — more common in Britain than in America — reflects the word's status as the "next" taboo expletive after the increasingly-tolerated fuck; it is increasingly being used as a direct substitute for the f-word, taking on analagous forms and being used in the same syntactical manner, despite the fact that it is - when used literally - a noun rather than a verb.
A known euphemism for the word, originating within the London area, but now having more widespread use, especially within the south of England, is the phrase 'see you next Tuesday'; C (see) U (you) Next Tuesday. An example of usage would be: "Oh that bloke is such a see you next Tuesday".
[edit]
As Mentioned before Im no prude. I swear like a fucking trooper in the bar but neither I or anyone IM with ever use that word.
Just admit your wrong and you posted a bit of a silly comment. I like commas btw , , , , , , , Nie arnt they
The quote above is not from me its from a dictionary. An important point to note is that it mentions in some european countries the C word is not reagrded as offensive as some others. Itried to pint this out to Ableton
So Ableton, do yoursef a favor and delet this thread
Your about to release Version 5 and will have new potential users visiting your forum. I can assure you the word is extremely offensive, but I just think it nakes your forum look far worse than Cubase forum ever did,

there are several 'proper' definitions posted in this thread - its down to personal taste as to which one you believe.
you're right - this word is offensive to women, i didn't deny that.
the good reputation of the scots? i wasn't aware we had one.
the next time you come to scotland i'll take you to places where this word is used every other word, then after we've had a kicking and had all our money stolen we can have a laugh about it.
don't confuse edinburgh with the rest of scotland (i'm assuming you've never been to pilton, pollockshaws, grangemouth or any other number of 'grim northern towns', there are some really dull shitholes around here where the language and violence, theft and drug use would make you shit. we're not all red hair and tam-o-shanters.
where i live the word is used many times, as a greeting and as an insult (mainly as an insult mind you).
opinions is what this is
ours differ
lets not get carried away - its the internets and we're all here cos we love ableton. feel free to post in my threads or responses, i apologise for saying don't, that was rash

many of our members on this forum are Ozzies and Brits, where the word isn't as taboo. and if you want to talk about how offensive the word is in "the english language", then you might want to talk to people from ENGLAND. i guarantee you they aren't even a fraction as offended as you are.
I remember going to a footie game in Melbourne 2 years ago, and hearing a little 9 year old girl call the officials "fucking cunts with shit in their eyes", and then an old woman 2 rows back said "fair dinkum".
only in the western hemisphere (specifically the United States) is this word so forbidden.
remember, its just a word.
I have been to Australia, melbourne to be specific. Your not the only Dj who has played there.
I was born in the UK. No need to tell me about British culture. My Parents are British. I just happen to not live there now. I am a british citizen. Dont tell me about British culture. have you ever been there?
You always have a little anecdote to get your smart point across dont you.
Your new one is about a 9 year old shouting the C word at a football match may or may not be true. I dont care, I just know thats not normal behaviour from a nine year old or a ninety year old. You put it across as if its perfectly normal. Its isnt period.
This is a public forum on a software companies website. This is not a footbal match so what exactly is your point. Are you saying we should all freely use the C word on the forum. I think thats exactly what your saying.
You have used the C word on ths forum many times long before this thread appeared o obviously yo u have your agenda there dont you.
It was refreshing to see that quite a few posters disagreed with you on this thread. Usually regardless of what you say you have a legion of loyal followers on this forum who will agree with everything you say. Im certainly not looking for allies in any way.
Lets agree to disagree. You and Mosca go ahead and use the C word at every oppurtunity. I will not use it
Lets all just move on and forget about stupid threads like this.
Regards

EH??
The Scots are loved all over the world. Billy Connoly is my all time favourite comedian. I love scots humour, and the people. Look at what the scots have invented, telephone, steam engine, rubber, Pneumatic drills, tar mac, television and tons of other things. Be proud of your country, cause for such a small country it has influenced the world and how we all live.
William Wallace, Robert The Bruce, Rob Roy, the dude that wrote Peter pan. Theres a guy who is highly revered in japan (hes dead now). I cant remember his name. hes Scottish, and he basically idustrialised the country. Theres monuments and museums about him there.
And the Greed reputation. Like I say, I have never met such generous people and I tell you no lie.
Sorry Dutch people, but they are the tightest people I have ever met.
this is the funniest thread ever
