At this point, why buy boxed over download version?
At this point, why buy boxed over download version?
Both are going to be updated to the SAME Live 9 program when it rolls out. So is there any point in spending the extra money for the boxed version at this point? Unless the extra sounds that come with the boxed version of Live 8 WON'T also be included in Live 9.
Anyone know?
(by the way, I'm talking about the standard [non-suite] version, if it makes a difference)

I agree it's quite a lot extra for a box, discs and printed manual.
I imagine it won't be very popular, and I imagine that won't bother Ableton one bit.

Well, the boxed version includes the EIC. It appears that Live 9 doesn't, which would make it worth it to fork out a little more now and get the EIC bundled, to keep.
Unless I'm wrong and Live 9 does include the EIC instruments....

...and well, with a box version you can run ableton even when there are only old computers left out there and the net is'nt existing anymore....
only post war siencefiction for you?
hmmm, you'll never know...
and hey, the stickers are best for covering the apple logo.....

EIC is a SUBSET of the Orchestral Instrument Collection which the latter is now included with Live 9 suite if I understand correctly.
Re: At this point, why buy boxed over download version?
Boxed content annoys me.
Printed manuals are nice to read in the meditation chamber, but other than that ... it's just another giant cube thing clogging up my space. I actually wrote NI a heated email about the total waste of their Komplete box. It's just 45 overly-brief "Getting Started" manuals about quite complex subjects, in everything from Afrikaans to Zapotec, no reference manuals at all .... and an arseload of disks with out of date downloads on.
Yet that box is nearly the size of my PC. Pointless
However, I've never found abletons cloud storage to be very quick. No idea what the issue is. Could be my ISP, Amazon, or anything.

Bought the boxed Suite 8 from Sweetwater for $600 so I could do the 3 Easy Pay... *shrug*
Having the box and a physical copy is nice sometimes.
Stickers? Where were the stickers?
Edit: Nevermind, found the stickers! Yay!

Because the box looks pretty on the shelf. :p
Yes, I would buy the box for that purpose if I had the extra cash. I like things.

Re: At this point, why buy boxed over download version?
i know the OP mentioned standard live DL vs box, but for suite version i think box was the only way to get session drums. Suite 8 was my first DAW purchase after REAPER and I had no extensive high quality organized sample library, so I sprung for box with EIC2 and session drums. If I understand correctly, all that extra content will be in the Suite 9 download. In that case, having the printed manual for reading on the throne is the only benefit I can think of. Maybe the Live 9 stickers will glow in the dark?

Well so when you invite your frinds to make music they exclaim loudly "do you buy software?", yep, in third world countries buying software is very very rare.
Re: At this point, why buy boxed over download version?
Yes, the printed manual alone is my reason for going for the boxed upgrades every time but when I make the switch to Live 9 Suite, it will be convenient to have all that content on disc.
Re: At this point, why buy boxed over download version?
A couple of you have mentioned that it's included in Suite... but do you know if it's included in the standard version? That's the one I'm looking to get.
Unless I suddenly get a raise this week and can afford suite
