Live on a home server

Post by enuenu » Sun Nov 04, 2012 11:43 am

Looking at a new DAW PC build. Could I install Live on a Windows home server and operate the DAW from consoles in various parts of the home? Maybe even have two people using it at once? I would be using KVM switches to hardwire the KVM consoles to the main PC. Considering the new Windows Server 2012 Essentials.

Not sure how two people could be using the server/DAW at the same time hard wired from two KVM setups.

Also, I think Live allows for installation on two computer. It'd probably be best to just install it on two computers. Use the more powerful computer/audio interface to run instruments and the other to trigger audio clips?

I think it goes on one computer and you can put it on a laptop if you want.

I can't comment on the server idea though, never tried anything like that.

I wouldn't run it from a server, not designed for that.

You can, however, install it on 2 machines as mentioned and you can also have it on your main rig and then use VNC software to remotely control it. I use that in my studio so I can move from the main console location to the main keyboard which is away from the monitor position. I have 3 computers in the studio for these things and it makes it seemless when moving round.

Throw an iPad running VNC and/or Touchable/touchOSC then you have even more flexibility... There is still the issue of only having 2 hands tho but if you have a buddy that wants to play too then that could make it interesting I guess.
