cubase had sine waves and stuff years ago when I stopped using it.

but to be honest I much prefer Live's automation because although it doesn't have the bells and whistles it actually works.

It ... Looks .... Good.

Running all my old 32 bit plugins in a 64 bit environment with crash detection and recovery.

Of course they're still alive -- why do you think Ableton has scrambled to soft-launch Live 9 months in advance with upgrade pricing offers to lockin as much of their user base as they can? :)

2013 is going to be an interesting year me thinks.

Time to stock up on the popcorn.

On the whole I think live is a great tool and most live users are a loyal bunch, but live 9 (as is) looks to be seriously outgunned by bitwig IF it delivers what it says it will. M4L and the time I have spent learning live mmsy keep me on board, but I am really impressed with what I have seen from bitwig
DAWS: Live 11 Suite + PUSH2, Studio One, Bitwig and Reason all via an X32 desk: Instruments: modular and analogue stuff, guitars, basses and drums.

Very nice! It's indeed time most DAWs should have plug-in crash protection.

They could have done that but their upgrade pricing is not that special. So save the money.

2013 DAW wars lol

I like the video from bitwig even if I find a bit strange that once he had reloaded the plugin, he's too shy to click play again...
meeeeeh

very competitive feature for sure

both ableton and bitwig are running like crazy dudes right now

this is good for users

I definitely see a lot of cool and useful stuff in Bitwig, but I simply cannot get over how it all just almost exactly like Live. At this point, Ableton should simply monitor this thread, take note of what it is that makes Bitiwg so intriguing, and implement this in Live. I mean, if Bitwig can steal everything that is good in Live and then implement what's missing, surely Ableton can merely copy the top features of Bitwig?

It is the best for the users!
What I like most about Bitwig (and I guess most of longtime Live users) it is so similar to Live. Moving to Logic, Cubase,PT whatever means period of getting used. Bitwig vs. Live is probably nearly zero getting used to.
While Bitwig and Ableton compete, users will be the real winners.

Hmm, wasn't that the main reason Bitwig came into existence? I.e. no traction from Live concerning new features for years?

there's definitely a learning curve for BWS. it looks overall to be very similar but once you get into the details, you really see the differences. it's shaping up nicely with a solid feature set for a 1.0 release, and it's very easy to get giddy about the directions it's going after the 1.0 release.

Live 9, otoh, continues the tradition of adding a few begged-for-for-years features while carrying over many of the half-finished features and baffling omissions from previous versions. pains me to say it, but the evolution of Live (on the surface, not under the hood) has been so agonizingly slow over the years i've used it, that it's difficult to get enthused about it anymore.

still bought the upgrade though
