Is the following accurate?
- Max For Live WILL run it's pre-made devices WITHOUT having Max installed?
- Max For Live will allow you to edit pre-made devices & create new ones ONLY if you have Max installed?
Thanks in advance
His question and mine not answered yet? Does Live 9 w/M4L require MAX as well in order to be used (my question) and what about his above?oblique strategies wrote:Seems I still need some clarification:![]()

First, thanks for that clarification.crumhorn wrote:You need to own Max for Live to either use or edit max patches
To use Max for Live you need to install Max, but you don't need to pay separately for it.
To use Max without Live you do need to pay separately
In Live 8 you have to pay seperately for Max For Live even if you own the suite
In Live 9 you will still have to pay separately for Max For Live unless you buy the suite which will include it.
No, you can edit max devices inside live with m4l. WHat you can't do is edit or create them with Max standalone, the difference is that devices created with Max can operate without Live.oblique strategies wrote:Thanks all.
Now let me see if I have it straight:
1. You can use Max For Live pre-made devices by downloading & running Max in demo mode.
2. Using Max in demo mode does NOT allow creating or editing of Max For Live devices.
So basically what you get if you have Max For Live but NOT Max is access to pre-made Max For Live devices.

+ 1 I was thinking same thing + you will still be able to choose to install it at install and you should also be getting the Max 6 version at update as well, nice deal if you ask me..ark wrote:Max for Live in Live 8 does not require you to launch Max separately -- it launches automatically the first time you try to use an instrument or effect that requires it.
