well, if you are recording at 48kHz you are going to encounter some Sample Rate Conversion process if you are going to redbook (which is PCM 44.1)
I personally don't like moving from 48 to 44.1 . I've had some horrible surprises with it in the past and I can't contemplate it again. to my mind what is gained by moving your filters up another 4kHz , is balanced out by what is lost in converting it to 44.1

If you are scoring for film then 48 makes complete sense.

well, that's just my opinion. everyone has one.

no, you're right. I just render to wav to mp3, not CD or redbook.

keep your starting samples in mind, use the sample rate that most of them are in.
keep your end point in mind, if you're headed to CD know you're gonna SRC to 44.1kHz.
use the Hi-Q modes in Live.

most of all just relax and make music, we're very lucky to have the tools we do in our own homes.

Just FYI, I started looking at the SR of EIC2 and Session Drums instruments last night. Looks like most of the EIC2 stuff is recorded at 48 kHz and Session Drums are at 96 kHz.

On a related note, Sampler displays the SR of each sample in the Live status bar. I couldn't figure out how to see the SR in Simpler. Anybody know how? All the EIC2 and Session Drums samples are housed in Simpler.

Good point! Been thinking about EIC & Session Drums in 44.1 environment too...
