OH PLEASE ? ONE MORE DAY

Post by labrat » Mon Jul 18, 2005 3:30 pm

hi there, this is a quick message to anyone involved on the production team.

ok, so i've just rebuilt everything in LIVE 5, i'm including a rewire setup to trigger synth combinators there too, got 2 controllers running, lots of inbuilt effects ( the new flanger and beat looper are amazing by the way)

so far no bugs ( i havent tried the mp3 import yet, just using loops), in fact it handles beautifully, very well done all of you, thanks a lot.

BUT.

i have a really big gig on saturday the 22nd july in the south of france, and i really was up to dare myself to use the beta live 5 onstage i have that much confidence in it

one problem - IT EXPIRES ON the 21st july!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is there no possible way i could squeeze two more days out of this beta version,
(to encompass the 22nd and the morning of the 23rd) i promise you'll get a full report ( he he), i know i could just go back to using 4.14

but the BEAT LOOPER guys, the BEAT LOOPER HAS TAKEN OVER MY LI(f)VE

well, i had to ask - and i'm waiting on that download for the real thing with baited breath

Don't worry there should be a less buggy version out by the time, so you may be able to use beta for you gig with less risks...
Hu ! some love risks !
What's your gig, where exactly in south (I'm from Paris, got a couple of friends in the south...)

Cheers,

Going to Montpellier?

"i have a really big gig on saturday the 22nd july in the south of france, and i really was up to dare myself to use the beta live 5 onstage i have that much confidence in it "

It's very risky you know!!! i was confident like you and use Live5 for my radio show last week... after half an hour, all the sound was stuttering... still don't know why!

Anyway, i think there will be another beta after the 21st or maybe the final release?
Or just a trick, if you want this beta to work on 22st, just set the date of your laptop on 20...

Good luck!

I wish i could go to Montpellier this week end but i have to work.

Cheers!

what i just set the date of my laptop to something like 19th july 2005 and it will work????? i'll try.

hey when the sound started to get stuttery were you using stuff or just letting it run for a while?

i think you're right though, i 'm gonna switch it on, go to the pub for a drink and come back and see how its holding up.

For the date, i'm pretty sure it will work...
For the stutter part, i don't know.. I've used the beta all the week end at home and it was solid as a rock... but then, i was just mixing tracks for my radio show and had to make a stop and restart Live... so you never know, it's a beta after all!!!

Have a good show, i think the weather and conditions of this festival are very good (reminds me of the old times,... Boréalis)

i think by the 21st you'll have at least 3 new betas that won't be expiring, so don't worry.
i had a gig last week that i did with b13 (my gig was on the 13th!), and everything went fine. i could have done it with b14 too, and probably b15 (they were all out), but i knew my set was ok on b13.

if you don't do anything unexpected/new, the beta should be fine, i wouldn't worry too much about using it on stage.

good luck for your gig... i wish i was there...

If you are going to reset the date on your laptop, then a) make sure you do it in the BIOS as well as the OS, and b) (not sure about mac) for XP, don't connect it to the net or the xntp daemon will go update the time to the correct one.

Also, reset it by putting it back a few days before it is due to expire, but don't put it any further into the past than when you first installed it (you never know what sort of checks it's going to do)

Cheers,
Dan

As 16 was the first release candidate, there may not be another one coming every day, but it there is a newer one, than feel free to try. :)

B17 has the same expiration as b16 (the 21st) and I think you can count on that being the release date for the final. There probably won't be many more betas between now and then. The point of RC builds is they may be the GM release, provided there are no show-stopping issues.

anyway, one thing you can be certain of: there won't be any discontinuity in Live5.

but i hope we'll make it to b20 (not quite happy with b17).

It seems it would be better to hope b18 is perfect, eh?
