Something inherent in the album format that lightning rarely strikes an artist twice.
Thank god for the iTunes shuffle revolution. Most albums suck bums. Better of without them. Self indulgent tosh usually.
Although perfectly acceptable responses, I'm somewhat surprised by a lot of commercially successful artists being mentioned, especially on a DAW forum where people like to drop obscure artist names all over the place and spit on commercial success.
But what came to my mind was artists that appeared out of nowhere with an epic album, maybe didn't get commercially successful, and dropped off the planet. Maybe did a few remixes or something like that, but that's it. Where did all that talent go? All spent on one album? Having said that...
Chris Zippel - Genuine Horizon (2007)
Trifonic - Emergence (2008)
I listed the years because I just checked iTunes and both have put out something recently (yay), but between then and now...pretty much silent. I gave up on checking years ago.
