Event 20/20 Monitors - Anyone got a pair?
Event 20/20 Monitors - Anyone got a pair?
I bought a pair over the weekend and i'm not sure whether there's a problem but there seems to be some serious static noise when i switch them on.
I've read a few posts on the internet that said something about them humming when close to your computer monitor, but i seem to be getting the noise wherever i put them, and when i turn up the volume on the back of the speaker it gets much louder to the point you can't use them.
Does anyone have a pair? If so do you get any kind of buzzing/humming noise in the background? It seems to be coming from the tweeter.
Cheers

I've got some. But not the latest version. Mines are 10 years old.
I don't have this problem. But I've got some noise on them when I close my MBP or switch my MBP off and the event's stay on and stay connected to my MBP via Audio-Interface.
But not when everything is on.
Never had that problem.
Maybe an issue with connection to your interface?
Cheers
Btw: I've got the activ version. And they are connected via XLR - not Jack.

Re: Event 20/20 Monitors - Anyone got a pair?
.....give us some details...
static noise...?...means what?......humming?.....crackling?
how are they connected?
inputs, interface, mixer, power supply.......
i'm pretty sure the problem is not the speakers themselves....
and if you have a laptop or any other flat screen...forget about those stories.....place them where you want....
that trouble does'nt come from there.....

Re: Event 20/20 Monitors - Anyone got a pair?
Ground loop, I would say... It happened to me several times. Avoid connecting your equipment to both grounded and ungrounded power supplies at the same time... Focus on "grounded"... Then check your fuse board (or whatever you call it...) to separate two grounded sockets connected to two different fuses... Extension cables required (usually)... Try to connect your computer and soundcard to one socket and monitors to another one. Try another configurations if problem persists... Computer to the first socket and card with monitors to the second one...

Re: Event 20/20 Monitors - Anyone got a pair?
Thanks for the input
I am running them into my Kontrol S4 using a cable which has a 1/4" from the S4 to an XLR female which then fastens to a male-male XLR adapter into the back of the speaker. I have moved them to other parts of my room to check that my monitor (iMac) wasn't interfering (as i read somewhere on the net this may be the case) but it made no difference. When i have the volume to -12dB on the back of the speaker it is quite loud, when i turn it to 0dB it gets much louder to the point they can't be used, and as i get to +12dB it is incredibly loud. I noticed that one of the speakers seemed to be picking up interference from my hard drive as i started my iMac as it was making similar noises and amplifying it, but the other didn't seem to do this.
I've uploaded a couple of vids to show what happens....

Re: Event 20/20 Monitors - Anyone got a pair?
It's a very common issue. You can hear noise in your monitors that responds to every move of the mouse and so on... It's called the ground loop... I experienced it and learned to get rid off it by connecting my equipment to two different currrent phases. Trial and error...
And avoid ungrounded sockets - iMac doesn't like them

Cheers i'll look into it!
Re: Event 20/20 Monitors - Anyone got a pair?
I changed the cables for some high quality ones that bypassed the need for an adapter and they work perfect now.
They are unbelievably loud and clear, love them!!!
