Almost embarrassed to say....Sennheiser HD650s, the bad boys. Don't smoke, drink or do anything else and the wife doesn't charge yet so figure I may as well indulge my ears when it's worth it.
Fine, fine headphones but you wouldn't want to be dragging them down the club though, not unless you had extra headphone security on the rider if you did ;)

if not BD770s then AKG171 or 271

Post by annadyne » Wed Jul 20, 2005 9:21 pm

After owning a pair of AKG240Ms for several years I got a pair of the closed supra-aural AKG 171s, which are totally enclosed. Although they are not circumaural they have a lot of detail, are a bit for being on the go, and aree good are 'sealing out' exterior sound. They give as much detail, albeit with a different feel of frequencies, as my event asp8 monitors, which is saying something

Next go around I'll grab a pair of the 271s (circumaural) or the beyerdynamic 770s.

Hope this helps,

Anyone tried headphones by Grado?

A friend has a pair he raves about and I've been reading some very positive reviews.

Grado headphones

I was wondering when someone would mention Grado. A number of cans have come my way over the years, but for my money, Grado are the finest. Very neutral, DEEP soundstage, comfortable to wear, great detail, they are always a pleasure to use. I recommend the SR125s. Check out their website, Gradolabs.com, for more info. Hand-made in Brooklyn, family company for fifty years, you can't beat it.

So what is the concensus on the best "afforable" heaphones? Grado? I don't want to spend more than maybe 100-150 on em, since I prefer to mix with monitors at medium volume anyway.
