MIDI looping.

Hi.Say I record 4 bars of MIDI in the arrangement view.When I go to the clip editor and set up a loop to play from the beginning for two bars it only plays the two bar loop twice until the original four bars are 'used up'.The manual states that it should loop indefinitely.Am I doing something wrong?Many thanks.

anyways - go to the clip view of the particular clip in arrangement view, and check wether the start cue point is within the loop markers. It may seem that You've recorded 4 bars, and set the loop for 2 last bars while leaving the start point at 1.1 so the clip plays extra 2 bars that aren't looped and then eventually gets in it.

I don't use the loop facility in the arrangement,just in the clip editor The idea is to to have a constantly running loop of say two bars while recording a longer melodic midi piece in a different track.

It sounds like you're still playing the song from arrangement view, which will only ever play a loop for however many bars you extended it to in that track.

Once you set the clip to loop, you need to drag the edge of it to extend it to be multiple bars in arrangement view.

However, if you want it to play while you record another track, a better idea would be to drag the clip you want to loop into the session view, then play it from there while the main record is enabled--your loop will play indefinitely (and record itself that many bars into the arrangement view) while whatever you're recording will be its own track.

If you haven't read the Live manual yet or done the tutorials, I would highly suggest it, as the relationship between session and arrangement views is quite useful in the music-making process!

Yeah, loop indefinitely in session view.

In arrangement view it only loops indefinitely for drawing.

Another possibility which might be confusing is, if you set the arrangement to loop and record for a while, the clip that shows up in arrangement will show the most recent part of your take.

BUT, if you double click that clip, and dig around in it, you will find the audio from entire session that you recorded.

Thanks for the replies.The manual doesn't state you have to be in Session view.It seems strange that Live can't do what my little Yamaha RM1X can do with ease.What's so difficult about having individually looping tracks? A track should be a separate entity in its own right to be manipulated at will.I,ve never seen the point in having a whole piece looping together.

its common law in multiple daw's that the loop in arrangement view works for all channels.

if u r in session mode u can loop or not loop what ever u want.
