Hi,
I have just rebuilt my old laptop with a fresh windows installation but can't install Live 8 on it. (The installer just hangs, probably because I don't have enough memory- 1Gb). I have contacted support but want to ask here as well...
Does anybody have a copy of the Live 5 installation download or know where there is a link?
Cheers
EDIT: Found it. Feel like a dunce now. https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/liv ... nstallers/ Ableton if you are reading this ignore my support request!
As a related question, I wonder if it is worth upgrading the RAM in this laptop? It is runing Windows XP Pro SP3, with 1Gb Ram and a Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83 processor.
I only use if for DJing - small number of tracks, with very few effects and no instruments. Would an extra Gb of RAM allow me to install and use Live 8 (and 9 when it comes out?)

Re: Using an old laptop with Live 8
it's always better to have some more RAM, I guess, and it doesn't cost much these days.
For L8 or L9 it won't change much - I've changed 4G to 8G without noticing a much improvement in L8 working.
Migrating to the L8 is a good idea if You consider buying a new computer, and think of complex usage, than just mixing and djing.

Ta
I already have Live 8 (and will get 9 for free) installed on my desktop. It's really a question of whether it's worth spending any money on this old laptop or not. Can put an extra 1Gb of RAM and a bigger HD in it.. but if it's not going to run Live 8 anyway there's no point for me.

Re: Using an old laptop with Live 8
FWIW I ran L8 on a 2ghz Core 2 duo laptop with 2 gig or RAm and it ran absolutely fine - just ran out of juice when trying to run too many VST instruments - although I did make sure the ones I was not playing at any given time were switched off.

Live 8 runs fine on my XP laptop with 2GB of RAM.
2GB memory is so cheap these days, just buy it.
