Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
I'm an Ableton Suite 8 user. And i was wondering, when Live 9 launches, will we have to buy it for the mentioned price (which is $749), or will suite users get a discount on the upgrade?
Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
This has been discussed in a few threads. Ableton has previously said it will offer Suite 8 owners an upgrade path to Suite 9 when it is released. You will not (& I suggest you do not) have to pay $749 for it.billz270 wrote:I'm an Ableton Suite 8 user. Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
it's kinda usual case - an upgrade is always cheaper than a new license.
In L9 Suite case things may differ a bit, as it will include M4L by default.

As your licence is registered with your email account, you can just go to Ableton website, click on Live 9 and attempt a purchase. As Live 9 is not available ATM, they will collect your information about your licence and tell you immediately on screen how much is gonna cost to you the upgrade.
My one is about £190.

Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
@scottie, the displayed prices are going to be changing around launch, or on launch day. Ableton has mentioned this in a few threads, though I can't find links right now

Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
@scottieb - don't forget that Live 9 also includes Max for Live now - factor this into any upgrade cost, as it will be factored into the upgrade pricing pathway of users who have already invested in Max for Live - otherwise it wouldn't be very fair on them, would it, considering their investment? As I said in my first reply, this has been discussed in other threads quite extensively with much wailing & gnashing of teeth. As I also said, Ableton has signaled that it will provide an appropriate upgrade path/pricing for existing Live 8 Suite owners at the release of Live 9. I suggest anyone not sure about any of this should wait and see what the upgrade prices will be when 9 is released.

Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
I've spent half of my month incomes on M4L, and TBH would be really pissed off to see now it's been given for free.

Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
And the reason some of us never invested in the first place is because we don't want it to start with. So going by the advertised upgrade price at present for Suite 8 owners without Max4Live, its extremely steep.artpunk wrote:@scottieb - don't forget that Live 9 also includes Max for Live now - factor this into any upgrade cost, as it will be factored into the upgrade pricing pathway of users who have already invested in Max for Live - otherwise it wouldn't be very fair on them, would it, considering their investment?
Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
So you are you suggesting Ableton remove features from Live 9 suite? Let's face it, there's always going to be something someone is unhappy about, but others are happy about.Sage wrote:And the reason some of us never invested in the first place is because we don't want it to start with. It seems realistic &/or reasonable expectations are hard to find these days.

Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
I'm hardly being unreasonable or unrealistic. Currently the upgrade for me (I use 8 Suite) is advertised at 250 euros.
Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
Sage - Reference to 'unreasonable and or unrealistic expectations' should be read in context of the rest of my sentence. What you may or may not want or have purchased from Ableton in the past because of your stated wants/needs will not align with what others want or need, so realistically you cannot reasonably expect Ableton to provide everything everyone wants (or doesn't for that matter) at a price point everyone will be happy with.Sage wrote:I'm hardly being unreasonable or unrealistic. Having said that, the price you quote does seem steep, but as has also already been said in this thread & stated by Ableton in these forums, they are going to offer a different upgrade price to existing suite owners closer to the release of Live 9, so arguing about this price at the moment is a moot point, why don't you wait and see what Ableton puts on the table when the time comes?

Re: Ableton 8 to 9 upgrade.
But Ableton shouldn't be advertising that price if its not applicable to me, as maybe I don't check this forum or something. Bit of a silly move on their part.
