Hi guys...please forgive me (or direct me to the posts) if this has already been discussed...but I've tried searching and the posts i found didn't help much..
I was sent some aiff files of a song to remix....it's just the vocals...
there're 16 different files....all ranging from 3 minutes to a few seconds....
I have the original on mp3....and using the tap function...figured the bpm is 66 (it's a dub song)...
I have no idea how to arrange these individual pieces into a continous vocal track....
The files are labelled Audio 2#01, audio3#01, audio4#02, audio 4#03 audio 4#05

without knowing what the source material was intended to be used for or how it was recorded i'd say you have 2 options.
1.) line the files up chronologically based on the naming conventions. this seems painful and like avoiding it is the reason you posted this question.
2.) get the vocal stems re-sent... this time... have the person sending them include the silence across the entire track not just the snippets of audio within.
the way i export stems is to move the left side of the loop bracket to the very beginning of the song/tracks... then move the right side of the bracket to (at least) the next bar after the final bit of audio. you then export the individual tracks. depending on the DAW used to do this... it can either be one track at a time or in Live there is an option to export individual tracks separately rather than just the master channel as a mix/final output. so i would mute all tracks that are not part of the stems you wish to export... then select that option on export.
the reason for doing this is that you can then drop each file into a separate track and when played back they will line up just as they were in the original source DAW.
does that makes sense?
so if you have a two minute song and the first vocal (say a 4 bar verse) does not take place until 30 seconds in... you should not have to try and place it on the timeline 30 seconds in by hand/mouse. instead (when method 2 above is used) you will have a 2 minute vocal track that has silence for the first 30 seconds... voice/verse for 4 bars... and more silence for the remainder of the song all contained in a single track. you cannot NOT get it right if all the tracks start at 1.0.0
