I can see why this would be useful for you, but I can't see anyone taking the time to upload their unpolished work for you, if they're not getting anything out if it for themselves. If you want, I could send you a few tracks, but my minimum fee is $11.30 per song. I accept PayPal.

How is getting your unfinished tracks mastered by another set of ears -for free- not useful? I would be getting your tracks up to red book standards for cd authoring if needed. Not every one has the extra software or time or interest to do so. If this isn't perceived as a value for both parties and would be considered a hassle to upload your files, then that's fine for you. But others may see an opportunity. Thanks, but no thanks for the offer to pay you 11.30 per track to work on your music for you. If I thought money was what was important here, I would spend it on advertising. Or tacos.

but I've heard too many scary stories of people stealing other peoples work. My friend is currently in two lawsuits because 2 diffrent people stole his music such as vocals and what not.

As footsy says I suspect it's an issue of copyright (you should be aware of this if you have experience).

Peoples work belongs to them. If they just pass it freely over to you, it's then out of their control. Who knows what you'll do with their work?

Have a look at the ccmixter web site, where people share music under a Creative Commons license.

There are also regular opportunities to download stems for remix competitions etc. e.g. Indaba Music.

Fair enough. I appreciate the extra perspectives concerning why someone might hesitate to gimme all there heart and soul music for me to do what I will with it. I wasn't really expecting to get works of epic proportions that you've spent three years on or anything, just some of those tracks that might not make the cut regardless.
And thanks for the helpful suggestions regarding cc. I'm sure there are gobs of misc. source material out there that I could work on, which I may well do, but I was thinking that having personal feedback from the creator, to get the sound more to there liking and not just what I think sounds good, would be the real value in this exercise.
Maybe I just didn't present myself the right way or this isn't the right place /time for what I had in mind.

The thing is, you're a relative noob on here and people don't know you from Adam.

I'd suggest getting yourself out to an Ableton (or other DAW) User Group or an electronic music night, the sort of thing where people do collaborate. Don't expect them to hand you stuff on your first night either - keep going, become a familiar face.......then you might get somewhere.
