Moog Sub Phatty - lower cost Moog with big features

Well, that can translate into:
1. Quality
2. Good design & ergonomics
3. Retaining it's resale value
4. Magic... (all right, Apple is full of B.S. on that front, but Moogs do have a bit of mojo in the circuits)

I don’t have any Moog hardware and I’m sure they sound great for what they are, but I refuse to believe you can’t get the same sound dropping the same total $$ on a handful of softsynths which would also give you a lot more flexibility and sound range.

I'd say it has more to do with preference, reputation, and ease of use. Not because it's impossible to get the same sounds any other way.

Yes but it's probably less fun. This thing obviously is about hands on control (please note how elegantly i avoided stepping into the analog vs digital trap). If only the form factor wouldn't be so stupid. Gonna wait for the release of a rack or desktop version.

I'm gonna say there are aspects of Moog sound, as well as performance variables that are impossible to create with software.
Harnessing electrical current has a unique quality 1's and 0's do not compute.
Sure you can make some basic sound with a Moog or any other analogue synth, play that note and emulate that result fairly well with a softsynth.
But you will never duplicate the electrical sonics in PWM, filter modulation, detuning modulation, velocity variation, overdriven filters, turning the wave form from triangle to pulse.
My phone plays vinyl rips of MP3's but it's different than the actual vinyl playing.
I'm not saying one is better than the other, but if you make music, you'd be a fool not to notice the difference.
It's like saying new guitar strings sound just like old ones, come on.

I wish this Sub Phatty was less than 1G, but as stated above, Moogs have a better resale value/life, better than apple thats fer sure.

I really like that Moog is remaining true to what has made Moog's great with this new model.

what I like about the sub vs little phatty, is the knobs are not layered.
Everything you need is right on the surface.

I have a slim phatty and absolutely love it, and it might seem trivial, but I would like to have access to resonance and cutoff simultaneously. Granted I can use an external controller, but I'd rather it be available.

That said, I actually like the LED encoders on the little/slim phatty's.
I like that they update per preset.
It's a modern convenience I prefer.
I also like to see the values bouncing around when a sequencer is driving it, visual feedback is nice.

the sub has dedicated knobs for each function.
little phatty has shared knobs for multiple functions.
