Your post is questionable and makes no sense. Music is not about getting to some results by the cheapest way. Your chosen method should make you happy, thats it. It`s about feeling and the love to real machines and instruments with a story behind them. You talk about limits of hardware synths and forget that softsynths are limited in the same way. Everything has it`s limits but the benefits of a specific instrument are more important to me as the limits.

The warm power and pressure coming out of some analog synths surpasses the abilities of most softsynths in this special regard. Chasing this sound and having the possibility to turn real knobs on a nice piece of gear has a high value for many. You do not have to understand this but your frustration about hardware synths is funny and somehow I believe you would love to have some of them in your own four walls...

After doing more research on the Internet there does seem to be more people posting from the hater side than defenders of the throne.

Clearly this is another “vinyl will never die!” argument.

Good points! My 'frustration' is actually just a desire to make funny posts that I think are nonetheless completely 'valid' -- e.g., they posit an opinion that I do, genuinely, feel and beleive in. (Kinda feel like I shouldn't have to even say that, I mean it's obvious, right??) And like any opinion it's up for argument, and you make some good ones here. I could throw back that half your argument -- the 'hands on' bit -- is covered suitably well by Controller technology and therefore rendered a bit moot, but whatever. I also think the 'story to tell' line about instruments -- while DAMNED poetic -- is more fantasy than meaninful reality, and suggests a certain Brand Brainwashing that I'm too scared to ponder any further...

In any case, I think you know full well that my post DOES make sense -- as one take on the industry of ultra-expensive instruments whose actual benefits are purely subjetive. You fall into the camp of those who believe in the "warm power and pressure" (to quote you directly..sounds Mmmmmmmmmm) of Analog Synths, and I dig it. I'm just not there, obviously.

Get onto some guitar forums. People on those wouldn't go near anything unless it was made from valves. :lol:

I've been having fun today with my Zvex Fuzz Probe making sounds that simply wouldn't be possible with softsynths. Its not even technically a synth, no ability to save and only has 5 knobs.

I was also thinking in regards to mholoways "story to tell" rebuttle.
So Sonic Youth gets their shitty guitar collection stolen, and replacing them with simply the same brand shitty guitars is supposed to suffice?
Replacing them with custom guitars is supposed to feel the same, sound the same?

How many instances of Omnisphere can you run and maintain what the hell is going on, and not hiccup your laptop when triggering preset changes?
How many controllers does it take to access all those features?
How do you decipher which instance is which, and what not, with generic controllers?
Do all of those "features" make your music sound that much different than others?

aside from the loud as fuck Hi-Watt amps, solid state doesn't rate except for bass guitar.

end of the day it's more about the artist than the gear. everyone should own a *nice* piece of hardware at some point in their lives. you end up bonding with the damn thing in weird ways.

I’m listening to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. I think there is some Moog in there. :P

Gap Band bass lines do get me pumped. :P
