I'm not there again,
And my friends that didn't piss their life away on drugs never considered me having balls for going to meetings. I'm pretty sure they just think I was making bad choices from the get to, and if making meetings helped me, they might support that.
It's like saying it takes balls to leave after being around a while.
True for some, cowardly to others.
I think at times the "having the balls to stay" gets some through, it can inspire, encourage hope.
But there are times when that sounds like peddling fear wrapped in pride, too.
My choice to leave most definitely does not change the fact that I was once hopelessly addicted to hitting bottom.
I agree, the fellowship is pretty amazing, and at times I miss some folks who are too scared to discuss my success post fellowship. Yet there are still a few who have the "balls" to hang with me inspite of our difference in moving forward.
To this day, if I find someone in need asking for help, I recommend NA, because I know it to be a great way to get started. I know many that found it a permanent solution, an I support that.
I saw things differently, and I have good and bad things to show for it, and the good is outweighing the bad.

I used to cringe every time the word "God" came up, but generally I found most people added the qualifier "as I understand it" and most people weren't really christians they were just adding a 'spiritual' dimension to it.

But ultimately it wasn't that about meetings that didn't work for me. Maybe I just didn't give it long enough, but it's more about the feeling that I had about going - it wasn't an uplifting feeling, it was more of a down depressed feeling... sometimes it would be a laugh, but a lot of the time I'd be sitting there listening to people droning on and just wishing they'd shut the fuck up!

On the Alan Carr topic - I have to say despite Funken's borderline autistic spamming of it making me feel like I need to oppose it almost on principle, it worked on my ex for smoking so well it shocked the hell out of me. She's always been a bit of a diet obsessive/food nazi and when we first got together she was going on about it to me and I said to her as long as she was smoking she had no right to talk about anything health related, so she read that book and just never had another cigarette. Not a word, never once said a thing about it, just stopped. I was amazed.

But then my dad read it after 40 years smoking and the only thing he got from it was "you're still allowed to smoke" . he cut down a lot, then got pneumonia and dropped dead. When the Ambulance driver arrived I mentioned it and he said "it's always when they're just giving up".

They were out of spicy cheese-Itz at the grocery store.
I was about to bust out the gat,
That's when I saw this book on the shelf,
I realized spicy cheese-Itz were over rated.

And yet Easyway cures people completely in 4 hours. Which is most successful?
Yeah, forget that your cousin has been sober for 15 years, that's not what's important here.

So are you telling us your choice is now "permanent"
From here on out its impossible to re nig on your choice because reading a book psychologically fixed your ability to choose otherwise?

There should definitely be a physical meeting for you guys.

In a pub somewhere near Euston Station or something.

It would be very unfair given his physical health conditions.
Duct tape would be good enough, though.
