Gangnam style background sound...

Post by Cowpar2 » Thu Jan 31, 2013 4:22 pm

There this one sound in Psy's "Gangnam style" that I Want to figure out how to do..
I heard similar sounds in other songs too, so i think this might be easier to figure out.
It kind of sounds like white noise put through a comb filter, and it's more of a background sound...
So here's the sound:
0:00-0:30 is a part without it, 0:30-1:00 is a part with, and 1:00-1:12 is my (poor) attempt of copying it
1.mp3
Can somebody tell me how it was made?

Sounds just like white noise with a compressor side-chaining from the kick.

Although that might be how the amp is modulated, I don't think that's how the sound was made.
I'm saying this because I made just white noise, pink noise, comb-filter white noise, and comb-filtered pink noise, and none sound like that.
They sound close, but I think I'm missing something...

Try Utility phase left/right
Chorus, Flange, etc.
different reverbs too

It sounds like a big reverb tail from a digital crash/splash/snare sound, with the wet near 100%

Sounds close to me.

Word of advice: get Dropbox. It's way easier to listen to an mp3 via a link right in my browser than to have to download it from a site covered in ads and cookies
