Slow Ableton with justifiable laptop parameters

Post by pembls » Tue Feb 05, 2013 6:21 am

hello guys,
CPU usage under 5-6 not big VSTs is 70-80%, for example using 5 Absynths at the time and Ozone4 on the master. Is this possible with i7-2670QM 2.2gHz (CACHE 6 MB), 4gb of ram, 7200rpm hdd and fresh installed win7 x86? any suggestions?

effects in arow, or instruments?

if effects, then possible. When u use them in chains or as return.

if instruments (u said no big) not possible in my mind.

How much cores do u have? i would say 2

i would say its not normal. I use more vst's then u, but i didnt have absynth or ozone. maybe htey are that resource hungry.

it's not normal, last week I sold macbookpro with i5, 4gb ram and hdd with 5600rpm and migrate to windows with i7. had no probs with mac, used much more VST at a time and had till 50% CPU usage, that's why I'm asking here. maybe it's some of driver problem?

what 4 a soundscard do u use?

cause i had a equal problem which was caused by the usb port of my motherboard (so i got spikes while using my usb sound card. it looked like sawtooth wave when i watched the cpu meter.)

did u got 80 % in ableton or at the cpu meter?

Solved! downgrade lenovo lan driver (?), use lenovo power management driver (set max performance on AC), asio4all for the latency and everything working fine!

yeah... the internal sound driver that comes with Windows is no Core Audio that's for sure, but having said that ASIO4All or any sound card with half way decent drivers should run smooth on Win 7.
