recieved, unboxed, installed
pads feel good, sliders and knobs feel good (better than i expected), open live, select bank 10 on TF, load up an impulse, hit pads, woOt.
only thing - fucked up my UC33e - had to reinstall it
not convinced about the mic stand set up - seems a bit flimsy (beyer gst500 stand so we aint talking cheapo shit) and not really ideal if you do all your work sitting down.
in summary - breezes

i've used the akai, didn't really like it as a unit, plus it was too expensive at the time for what you got.
plus - i don't like akai as a company, the TF looks better, has sliders and knobs for added control, m-audio have been good to me, and akai's distribution in the UK is next to nothing and trying to get stock was a nightmare (or it was when they went bust, dont know about now).

If you can get your hands on one, you won't be disappointed I don't think.

Trigger Finger Vs Akai Mpd16
Hi all, this is my first post. I bought the Akai Mpd16 June 8, 2005 tried it out for 35 days, I had a total of 45 days to return for money back or exchange. The Akai's MPD16 driver conflicted with my windows xp, and audigy card, I had to install and uninstall several times before I resolved the problem, you only have setup a/b (2 sound banks) with the Akai, no display to setup onbard the unit, has a diagram on the back, a very short usb cord is supplied with the unit, the pads are thick and stiff, probably will last a while, but they were not smooth to touch, they also seem to turn gray after hitting them, you have to break the pads in, no extra software besides the driver and very basic and not worth the money. I sent it back to to the retailer. I have only had the Trgger Finger for 3 days and I am so glad I did not keep the akai. You can setup up the TF in so many ways, using any of the 8 knobs for clips, or filters setting up samples on the fly, using any of the 4 sliders for volume, pitch bend, or whatever you desire. You can get the MPc repeat sound with the Ableton live 4 or 5 there is a sample file you can download along with a demo of Ableton Live. http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/so ... epeats.zip the repeats download only works with the demo and full version of live, I am still trying to figure out the concept of how it works, it does explain it as well as loads in the program. I talked to a tech from M-audio and was told that you can not use the repeats download in the live lite version that comes with the TF, but I found out that you can minus 1 track. The Tf also has 16 on board setups and with the enigma software the setup are unlimited to fit your needs, there are also some presets for Reason< ableton and other programs, just click on trigger finger and click the name of the program and send it to the device you are done. The usb cord was almost twice as long as the Akai and the unit looks great, and easy to mount to a mic stand. The Tf is $50.00 -65.00 cheaper depending where you buy it, customer support emailed me back with any questions I had and even phoned me. Akai's tech support was worthless when I asked for help. IMO M-Audio is the way to go hands down. Hope that helps.
The video can be seen on this page and the repeats clip can also be downloaded from this page or the link above in this message.

Trigger Finger doing the job
Mine has been reliable and a more reasonable alternative to the Akai rig selling for around $250. Paid $180 for it. Only gripe is the written support out of the box is limited, but then if you've used a MIDI trigger before it ain't rocket science.
I'd recommend.

Andreas, what bag are you using to tote all that stuff around?Machinate wrote:I got mine a few days back, and I'm very pleased with it. It's so small that I can fit my laptop, bcr2000, soundcard and the TriggerFinger in my backpack to go to rehearsals - very nifty.
