Triggering Live in Arrangement view from an external sampler
Triggering Live in Arrangement view from an external sampler
Ok,
Usually I have 2 laptops on stage. Macbook A runs my backing stuff in Live's Arrangement view, with locator markers at the start of each particular track. Macbook B has corresponding video clips (also in Arrangement view), also using locator markers. I trigger these from an MPD16, and it works pretty nice on a midi network. I tried both audio and video on one macbook, but it was somewhat unstable.
Now, I'm looking to ditch one of the macbooks, leaving only the video one onstage, and would possibly like to replace Macbook A with a sampler. I've NEVER touched a hardware sampler in my life (the shame!), so don't know what my options are here. And how would I even tell the sampler to start an audio file (or bunch of audio files) at the same time as the video-running macbook?
Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Have you tried JAM2, it allows you to play video/multimedia clips in ableton Live session view. There is also a networking option that allows you to run Ableton on one computer and JAM on another. You can check it out at http://www.justaddmusictv.com or http://www.facebook.com/justaddmusicmedia

I'd still be running 2 computers though. Or, if I go with your first option, I'm still running video AND clips on one computer, which the computer did not like at all! Stuff would drop out in a live situation, it was very unreliable.

JAM2 runs on your GPU (graphics card) so it shouldn't have any problems running on a Macbook pro as Ableton runs off your CPU. Give it a go, and test.

Really? What are the benefits of me buying it though in terms of projecting simple videos for our songs in our set? I don't want to manipulate them or have them be multi-screen or anything like that... And do I drop the videos into clips in session view? Some of those demo vids of it are a bit un-informative.itsthejayj wrote:JAM2 runs on your GPU (graphics card) so it shouldn't have any problems running on a Macbook pro as Ableton runs off your CPU. i used to rewire reselume with ableton.
send midi messages to resolume to trigger the video/audio stuff.
it worked pretty good
